It is the perfect 'bread/butter' gift to bring to a dinner party if the host/hostess is at any degree involved in arch/design. Nice balance of kickyiness married to some actual though-provoking and right-on-target messages . It is also the PERFECT gift (at a truly reasonable cost) to have a few on hand in the closet, ready for the grab if you find yourself in need of a small token of appreciation that sends a thoughtful message without the uneasiness, perhaps shown in a more expensive or lavish gift not warranted for the occasion or individual.

Packaged ramen noodles are always one of a teen's favorite foods, because they are FAST and EASY to make. Plus, they are pretty filling, which is important for constantly hungry kids. Using the recipes in this book, we have learned how to create ramen noodles from scratch, and learned how to "healthify" packaged ramen noodles. The pictures are stunning and will make your mouth water and make your feet want to go running into the kitchen. All of the recipes come with step-by-step photo instructions.In addition to being a cookbook, it is a history book as it delves into the history of the noodle and its influence all over the world.

An inspirational writing tool I'll use long into my writing career By Alyssa When I first decided to purchase this novel, I wasn't sure if it was meant to be a motivational tool for writers or a writing tool in general. After reading, it's pretty clear it's meant to be both. I was both heavily inspired to write, as well as feel that I have been given a comprehensive tool for the writing and publishing process by someone who knows. And I don't just mean as a literary agent, but by Paula who shares her personal experiences both in life and in her evolving career, each stage giving a new insight to the world of publishable writing. It's amazing to see this 360 view, and I feel like I have a better grasp of what's expected of an author, as well as how to take measures to improve myself as a writer.

Weiss I've already read it twice! This is an insightful and comprehensive book on writing and publishing and it came at the perfect time for me. In the midst of a rewrite of my second novel, it gave me the overview I needed regarding current publishing trends as well as tried and true techniques and tips. Munier's background as a writer, editor, and agent gives this a broad-based authority. I highly recommend it.

By Tiffany "Writing with Quiet Hands" is a wonderfully helpful book for writers that are a bit further along in the process. From strong first lines to dramatization to voice to plot to characterization to dialogue to conflict to revision to (gasp!) publication, Munier guides the reader through her experiences as an agent and a writer. I particularly appreciated the exercises that appeared in each chapter, as well as Munier's unbelievably clear prose (she practices what she preaches). If a writer is not fortunate enough to work with Paula in person, then I think "Writing with Quiet Hands" is a very good investment. It really helped take the edge off my bazillionth rewrite, not just technically, but in terms of motivation.

The reproductions are extremely high quality and correct some of the errors on the online catalogue raisonne. For instance, reading this book I discovered one of the photos on the online catalogue had reversed the image of the painting, right-to-left. And the colors here are much more vibrant and truer to life than the online catalogue. Of the three volumes released to date (Volume 2 is not yet released), this is by far my favorite.

The book is well built – I find Hatje Cantz publications to be of high quality – the binding is strong, the pages are thick, the colors are rich, the covers are sturdy, the spine is tight. It opens fully, and lays flat with little effort/trouble. It is printed in Germany, hence the high quality. I consider this to be a reference standard, and not for casual fans of Richter’s work. It does not explore the individual works in detail, nor does it explore Richter’s process, nor education/history. I would recommend this for a serious collector of Richter’s work – it is a hefty investment, since there are now 7 volumes planned (not 5, as listed here). If you are looking at this book, then you probably know what you are getting into. Otherwise, check out the previously published collection volumes ("40 years of Painting" or similar).I also have Volume 1, and it is similar in quality. Volume 1 contains a biography & bibliography.Vol 4 is the third published volume of a (now, as of 2015) 7 volume set. Note, these are not published sequentially. About the Author H. Floris Cohen studied history at Leyden University. He first explored the rise of modern science by way of writing Quantifying Music (1984), and examined how other historians conceived of the rise of modern science in The Scientific Revolution: A Historiographical Inquiry (1994). He solved the problem of how modern science arose in How Modern Science Came Into the World: Four Civilizations, One 17th-Century Breakthrough (2010), of which the present volume is a shorter version, written in a different tone of voice for a larger academic public.

Short-cut the launch curve by leaps and bounds By GL I was sure this was going to be another hyped up marketing book by someone who planned to make money by teaching others how to make money... but by the time I finished reading it I had pages and pages of notes! And that's really saying something since I've been in the marketing world for decades and find it very difficult to learn new things.This is a very practical, easy to implement, solid strategy for researching and getting something into the marketplace fast so you can get real feedback from real customers and short-cut the launch curve by leaps and bounds. Highly recommended.

By Susan Barton, Review Gal Right at the beginning of The Other Side of Nowhere, the author discloses that the photos included in this book are his earlier work and that he struggled with whether or not to publish them. He admits that he finds “the quality of the photography is not nearly as good as the photographs (he) now takes.” He needn’t have worried. The photos in this book are GORGEOUS and well-worth sharing with readers.How many of us will ever see an absolutely still hummingbird, wildflowers spurting through the parched desert land, a freshly caught cicada in the mouth of a phoebe or wild horses frolicking among the desert sagebrush? That’s what’s so wonderful about wildlife photography. It gives everyone the unique opportunity to view scenery and wildlife we might never get to see otherwise.The author explains the stories behind many of the photographs in this book. Whether it’s the difficulty of patiently waiting for a rapidly-flying hummingbird to land long enough to snap its photo (or catching one in mid-flight), or the dangers of working so closely to the natural habitat of a venomous rattlesnake, Max Allen candidly shares his wildlife photography tales. (Incidentally, the badger with a dirt-covered face is priceless!)The author also helpfully shares his camera settings in the caption of every photo. Well written and illustrated reference book By Christine Goodnough THE OTHER SIDE OF NOWHEREby Max AllenBook ReviewWildlife biologist and photographer Max Allen takes readers on a naturalist’s journey into the prairie, sagebrush, and sandstone cliffs around the Yampa River, a 250-mile long tributary that squiggles its way westward across northwestern Colorado to merge with the Green River in Utah.According to the writer: “It is one of the very few rivers in the area remaining undammed and free flowing. The river offers many recreation opportunities from rafting to fishing, and of course wildlife watching and photography.”Mr. Allen includes with his photographs descriptions about some of the settings where he took them, plus photographic info. As he writes in his notes, most of the animals he’s photographed are not unique to that area, but he’s gotten some great shots of them living their “everyday lives.” For my part he could have included more about his own involvement in that region, too.I found the book very well edited and would recommend it as a coffee-table book, gift for a nature-lover, and a nice addition to a reference library.I received a free copy from The Story Cartel in exchange for my honest review, then purchased my own copy.

The great photos definitely outweigh the good ones. I really enjoyed the stories behind the photos, both for their ability to draw me into the narrative but also for the background information on the animal featured in the photo. I wish there had been more of these behind the photo pieces as it would have made the images even more enjoyable. I enjoyed the inclusion of exposure data for the individual images, and would have enjoyed it even more if the author had included lens data for the individual photos. He does however include camera and lens data at the conclusion of the book.For purposes of disclosure, I received a free copy of this book through Story Cartel for review purposes.

A good read, but could have been a lot better By Archiver This is much better than Southall’s “From Me to You,” and Hollies fans will find a worthwhile read, but:1. The book lacks any insight into, or appreciation for, the Hollies’ music. Southall may well be a fan of the group, but reading this book, you’d never know it. It reads like a dry textbook.2. Lack of input from most group members causes Eric Haydock (who was booted from the band in 1966) to be very over-represented here. And was it really necessary to leave in his numerous expletives? He probably said them in talking to Southall, but they could have been edited out without diminishing the content.3. The book barely touches on album tracks and the evolution (no pun intended) of the Hollies’ music. It also omits some key points in the group’s history, such as the complete omission of the “Take My Love and Run” single. Details about the group’s later years are sparse, and Southall’s comments about the Hall of Fame induction ceremony are at best confusing and will mean little to those who did not see it.4. While the editing errors here are fewer than those in “From Me to You,” one wonders if anyone actually reads this material before it’s published. Possessives are largely and annoyingly missing, and there are numerous typos (one amusing one: “dong” instead of “doing”) and missing words. Southall gets the title of their first single wrong repeatedly, too. It was “(Ain’t That) Just Like Me,” not “(Ain’t) That Just Like Me.”The book would have benefitted from a co-writer who knows more about the Hollies and their music, as well as from an editor with some knowledge of grammar, but it does have its merits.

Dolmetsch Good but not as thorough as one would expect in a musical biography today! Many important developments in the earliest history of the Hollies are either omitted or simply glossed over. Also it would have been helpful to have a little more analysis of each album in the progression of the band. The first two albums were very much the product of "what we sing on stage" which was overwhelmingly covers of familiar r&b songs. The third LP marked the first true progression for the band into two styles: folk as rock (e.g. "Very Last Day") and strong self-composed songs that transcended simple pop. While hit singles, often composed by others, were the bread-and-butter of the Hollies for more than three years, they stretched in the EP and album fields into ever more complex and distinctive musical formats Banjos, folk, changeable tempos, all became hallmarks of the Hollies. I miss a lot of explanation into the motivation and design in the narrative here. This book is *a good introduction* into the Hollies story but it is by no means *the definitive* story of one of British rock's most remarkable bands.

Interesting by lines on the interactions with the Stones, Searches, Beatles and Elton John just to name a few.Found to be amusing was there distaste for the Dave Clarke Five.The group was well managed and had a great relation with producers, studios,and writers of there music.If your not a big Hollies fan still a enjoyable read.

Easy to follow, beginner level book on OpenCV By Amazon Customer Learning OpenCV 3 Computer Vision with Python - Second EditionI have done programming in python and was interested in learning OpenCV. This book did great job in introducing the basic computer Vision programming using python. OpenCV 3 is a computer vision library that is used for a variety of image and video processing operations. Some advance features such as face recognition or object tracking, are easily achievable with OpenCV 3.Overall, I found the book was easy to follow and it even included code examples from the book.

Patino This book is a great introduction to both computer vision in general, and OpenCV in Python in particular, but even people familiar with computer vision methods will find it useful to learn how to implement them in the Python ecosystem or how to optimize function parameters. An introductory to intermediate command of Python is assumed. The author's present the different concepts within the context of developing an application, and while the book doesn't follow the cookbook format, by the end you will still have a group of very useful scripts that can easily be applied to other projects. The presentation of the programming scripts is detailed and easy to follow. The authors have taken great care to build the complexity of the scripts slowly and without gaps in the sequencing. The use of each script is very well illustrated with images along the book. My only complaint is that the book is still based on Python 2.7, but the code doesn't seem to require many modifications to run in Python 3

This link is supposed to be to a download of a VM with all the necessary software already configured, but takes you to a page that simply says the author hasn't found a free hosting service for the file. I complained to the publisher and got no response.Secondly, the book says it is for python novices, yet immediately dives into looking at image files as arrays.Thirdly, because I could not use the VM, the only way I could get the opencv to work seems to not like some of the commands listed in the book.Highly frustrating and felt like it was a waste of my money and time
