You can't box God up in religion. You can't box Jesus up in Christianity. You can't box church up in a building. You can't box faith up in a set of beliefs. You can't box grace up in conditions. The Kingdom of God isn't boxed up in our churches. Imagine church without pulpits or pews, creeds or confessionals-no membership, plate-passing, pledges, vestments, heavenly choirs, or altar calls. Without buildings to maintain or staff to sustain, the church no longer is seen as a private club or guilt-trip haven to heaven. Instead, its focus is on caring and sharing, living here-and-now, not in the hereafter. Rather than part of our worldly empires, the church has become their antithesis. From guts to glory, the church begets reform.

One cannot help but love the citric quality of his writing By carla Once again, Bruce Joffe author of "The Gospel According to Facebook," gives Christianity and faith itself a facelift. One cannot help but love the citric quality of his writing. His style and his intellectual honesty cut through the muck of all the naysaying around progressive Christian understanding. He is my kind of heretic.

It might be very short in length, but it is definitely worth a read.Whilst it might not be your Marcus Borg, or Bishop Spong, it does indeed rest upon their shoulders, and probably the shoulders of many more authors I am not familiar with. Some of its ideas I knew already, some I did not. In the end it did not matter: even when I had read this or that idea over and over again, it still felt new and inspiring when penned down by this author. As for the content itself, the book is -- in a way -- a personal statement. I find it hard to call it a manifesto, for it lacks the typical schematic approach; I think the best way to describe it is a talk with an old friend. After just a few pages I felt like I was sitting in Bruce's patio (back garden, near his toasty warm chimney, you pick!) and having a chat with him after a nice day of walking around.Definitely a little jewel for your collection, whether you know a lot about Progressive/Liberal Christianity or not.

A challenging, thought-provoking and inspirational read By Druscilla Morgan I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review - and aren't I glad I was! This is a refreshing read, thought provoking and challenging, yet uplifting at the same time. This book asks some important questions that we, as Christians, should all be asking, examining issues we should all be considering as we put our faith into action. I found I agreed with most of the premises and outlook in this book. Others may not agree but it should, at the very least, give readers pause to evaluate their own faith walk and the impact of their faith, actions and words on others. Highly recommended!
