Even though I teach 7th grade, I could use outright or adapt each lesson I encountered. I'm excited for the new quarter, as we have a blank slate with which to work, and I can share and then try many of the ideas with students! These are other teachers' BEST lessons - I hope at least two more become mine, as well.

By Laura Bradley The power of The Best Lesson Series is that each chapter was written by a practicing classroom teacher. The lessons come right out of each teacher's own work, and they come after the kind of tweaking and revision that teachers tend to do as we discover better ways to engage our students in meaningful work. But what I really appreciate about these lessons is how creative and engaging they are. Not a single one looks like a dull, predictable textbook lesson. I love Josh Stock's "April Awesomeness" for how it engages middle schoolers in poetry analysis by way of a March Madness-style competition. And what teenager wouldn't love analyzing bathroom scenes in novels? (Thank you, Dave Stuart, Jr.!) I can see how Dan Ryder's 3x3 lesson can serve as a quick comprehension check, but can also launch kids up into high level literary analysis. If you teach literature to middle or high school students, this book will bring new life to not just your teaching, but to your kids' learning as well.

A Top-Notch Contribution to the Field By Dave Stuart Jr. When you see the list of teachers whose lessons are included in the book, you know you're getting 15 lessons that will spur you on toward great lessons in your own classroom. That's a given. But what I'm most impressed with is the book's quality -- Brian Sztabnik's editorial prowess is clear here as he's managed to create a coherence and high degree of usability out of a book created by so many others.Excellently edited, excellently produced, excellently written. Well done.
