I am a new driver and it's scary when your car starts making noises you've never heard her make before, it's something you simply cannot ignore. "I thought to myself if I can only look under my hood and see what's going on, then I can try to fix the problem, but wait what do I look for,” and that's when it hit me. I need some sort of guide that teaches the basic steps or signs that your car is crying out for help, it has to have a guide or something like this somewhere. I started my search and this book popped up, I figured why not it's only $2.99, so I bought it. And ever since I bought it I've been so confident, I notice crying out signs with my friends cars, I can go to my mechanic or any auto shop and ask questions they've never heard before, and be on the same page. They are no longer speaking another language to me, because I now understanding the terms. I'm no longer afraid to open my hood, something they Auto Know!

By Amazon Customer As a 20 year old constantly on the road, I found myself with little to no knowledge of the actual workings of my car. I was dependent on my father when it came to everything from dashboard lights to oil changes. The more I drove, the more I found myself wanting to know more so I could be more self-sufficient when it came to managing my car, so I searched for answers until I found this book. Audra does such a great job of defining scary sounding auto terms, and presenting the material in a way that is understandable and relatable. Her standing as a reputable female mechanic in a male-dominated industry is inspiring, and her genuine attitude in helping women take control of their cars gives me the courage to be a smarter, more confident driver.

Guess what, the reputable and factual best-selling authors mentioned in the Book Writing Bible description as contributors - are MIA. I realized almost instantly that two women who claim to be HOT and know the ropes when it comes to writing, are unethically attempting to scam readers for money. Both brag about their ability to make you a best seller, however check Amazon for their former book rankings and you'll see they are in the crapper. Far from the Top 100 & some rank in the high thousands and some in the millions. Now 1,000,000 is far from #1. You'd think before promoting their ability to help you write a best seller, their previous books would have 'credible' sales rankings. Amazon statistics don't lie.BWB begins with immature rhetoric and soon you realize Jenn Foster and Melanie Johnson are attempting to solicit readers to help make this book a best seller - in exchange for a possible trip to a $30,000 per week Villa. They encourage you to watch Utube Videos, etc. and I was surprised they didn't offer a bottle of snake oil to make you look "Hot" at the end. Should be classified as fiction By Ghost Writer This book reads like an article I would expect to see in The Onion.The authors' bios seem to say it all. Not only are they riddled with typos and grammatical errors, they are ads for the authors' (unrelated) businesses, such as vacation villas. So these two "authors" transcribed podcasts (with typos) and popped them into a book. According to the other reviews, they did this without the knowledge of the people they interviewed. (You know, the people who are actual authors.) At best, this needs to be classified as fiction, or maybe used as a huge example of what not to do. Very disappointing, not to mention shameful! What a terrible way to shame the credibility of all Indie authors.

39 of 43 people found the following review helpful. This is a wortwhile book for a beginner but for me the freebie promised as Chapter 14 on Page 55 didn't happen! By Dean Pennington I like this book, it's useful, eventually there will grow to be better compendiums with longer ‘can do’ or ‘how to’ lists, but this is what there is early-on.I have already personally discovered that "syntax" makes a difference, and if you have dentures, put them in, diction matters! There are things you may think won’t work, but try changing the order of keywords (nouns and verbs) and keep trying until you find out what works! Adjectives have an effect on the scope of things with Alexa (so words like more, louder, etc. are used), but getting them added into the request with your subject and verb also has a syntax that works and one that doesn't, maybe more than one that doesn't. If you know something's supposed to work and it's not, then maybe you should take that 25 word "say it" opportunity to let Alexa know how you speak. We all know that those call centers in Mumbai claim to speak English, and yet we all have a hard time understanding them; my point is to make sure you don't sound like one of those call center agents to Alexa. If you have dentures, put them in if you want Alexa to know it's you. Don't give up, I can tell Alexa has been enriched beyond what's documented, and the possibilities with Alexa are expanding all the time. Already you can tell Alexa to turn out connected lights. Before long you should be able to tell Alexa to print that shopping list, though even now the client software has copies of the dialog with Alexa so anything can be printed. Also while I mention that free client software, each request of Alexa becomes a "card" in a sequential list you can review, and Alexa is helped if you go through the card list and tell her she did well, or not. Also Alexa can keep music lists and voice differences straight between husband and wife users by establishing a free profile for each user. You will find there's a right way to tell Alexa to change profiles from your wife's to yours, and to ask her which profile she's on. In those profiles your wife and you can have separate music lists to play, shopping lists, etc. You can also tweak the news differently, you can hear what blew up overnight and financial news, and your wife can keep up with what Bruce Jenner and family are doing now. In short if you don't love Alexa, then let the romance begin because the possibilities look endless to me and I'm retired from 30 years at IBM and another 10 at AOL, and I'm impressed with Alexa. This is one of the goodies entrepreneur Steve Case dreamed could come from the Internet, the problem is he got too fixated on a TV screen built into your refrigerator door. While Jeff Bezos was dreaming sweet dreams of Alexa Steve Case went out and bought Time-Warner and half of Maui, Jeff Bezos can buy Steve Case, so I'm betting with Jeff. Alexa is a lot out of the box right now, but Alexa is a promise of a fast ride into the next decade where Echo's will be ubiquitous. Just imagine an Echo in Safeway that can tell you where the Quinoa (/'ki'nw''/ is? By the way, if your Echo is nearby you can ask Alexa to "define ubiquitous. Even now you can ask Alexa to spell "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" or define it; that's already reaching deep. If you are acquainted with Wikipedia, just know that Alexa is too.

This introduced Alexa where it's like a virtual assistant. Nice if your living alone and Alexa seems to be a companion from recognizing your voice and you can ask her anything from inquiries to organizing schedules. Just make sure that Wi-fi is on and device is plugged and you'll have a talking encyclopedia. Will recommend this to my brother.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A good line and length. By 1Tun Like all comedy, there is a tragedy playing out here. It's just funny because it's happening to omeone else. The Grade Cricketer might look at the life of a weekend warrior but it offers insights into life as a weekend worrier - a young man as unsure about his place in the world as he is about his spot in the team. As such it makes for uncomfortable reading at times and can leave you feeling a little sad for all involved, including yourself. It's kind of like the Muriel's Wedding of amatuer sport, illuminating the unquiet desperation of life in the suburbs. The laughs are awkward and unsettling because they are a little too close to home. In that way it reminded me, in parts, of another fictional memoir. The Durian Effect, by Richard Tong. You haven't lived it but the authors makes you feel like you lived through it. You can relate to it perhaps a little too well even though you're not like that, are you? Well played, lads. Well played.

Now, following a similar path, we have the Grade Cricketer, which began as a cult Twitter account and has now coalesced into a novel, in time for the 2015-16 cricket season.Where Grumpy Cat offered mainly visual humour, though, The Grade Cricketer book is rich with pointed, often-hilarious observations about amateur cricket culture and its discontents. Like any good novel, it comes with its own vernacular: the words ‘chop’, ‘champed’, ‘pipes’ and ‘rig’ dot the pages like freckles on an Australian forearm. Using this artillery of slang and some astute character sketches, the three authors track our narrator’s adventures as he revels in – and occasionally resists – the claustrophobic world of grade-level cricket.These features of the book elevate The Grade Cricketer from the two dimensions and 140 characters of a Twitter feed to a fully-realised character, one that all amateur sports people and their long-suffering significant others will relate to. Amongst the insights, there are enough gags to have you chuckling away the next rain delay, and some descriptive prose that brings the sleepy game of cricket to life.If the Grumpy Cat empire is any guide, more items in the Grade Cricketer franchise can’t be far off: perhaps another book, then a movie, then a Gray-Nicolls tie-in. Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) was one of the most influential artists of his day, producing work derived from “the most acute sensibility at grips with the most searching rationality” according to his friend, the writer Joachim Gasquet. About the Author

EMMA FITZGERALD was born in Lesotho, a small mountainous kingdom in Southern Africa. Her early travels have given her a large appetite for adventure. Combining her interest in people and places, Emma followed a career path that was part architecture, part art. She received her BFA in Visual Art at the University of British Columbia, spending her third year at L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, where she honed her drawing skills. She then completed her undergraduate and master's degrees in Architecture at Dalhousie University in Halifax. She has worked in architecture offices in Johannesburg, South Africa, and across Canada.

While working in Gambia, Emma took students onto the streets of their own communities, using sketching as their primary learning tool. When she returned to Halifax, drawing became an act of connecting with the many stories and unofficial histories of the area, a custom during her travels, but never before in Halifax. This laid the groundwork for her new book.

That's where the author and artist Emma Fitzgerald now lives.Hand Drawn Halifax is a charming sketchbook that captures the sights and scenes, buildings and everyday life of the city. The sketches are lively, loose and childlike in a way that they actually reminded me of Quentin Blake's style. These are sketches drawn on location with the colours added digitally later on.Each place or building featured is accompanied by a short history or the author's interaction with people she meets while drawing. She talks about the architecture, such as the Halifax Central Library that's designed to look like a stack of books, discovers a church that houses a concert at night, or talks about people dressing for prom, pitching a tent they bought online and other things she sees on the streets.Showing the places through sketches and observations has a nice personal touch. I enjoy reading and finding out about the neighbourhood and people.It's a lovely sketchbook. 128 pages, hardcover.(See more pictures of the book on my blog. By Shannon Andrews Communication is very important in all aspects of life, whether be in a relationship, in workplace or dealing with friends is it is essential how you perceived what you want to say or express what you feel inside you. This book provided proven steps, tips and strategies on how to communicate effectively too help in boosting your success rate in life. Aside from the tips provided on enhancing more your communication skill it also discussed the barriers and how it can be prevented in conveying yourself to others. It even tackled steps on how to boost your confidence when talking which for myself I am having a struggle with. All in all the book is very informative on giving out all the information vital to communication, building rapport, being motivated and practicing what has been said will definitely take a speaker or communicator one step ahead of any argument thus it does open doors to understand not only ourselves, who you're talking to but also the world we live in.

Helpful book to understand Communication By Audrey This is a very elaborate book on communication which covers almost every aspect of human life wherever a common man feels the need of good communication skills. The book rightly describes the situations wherever we feel puzzled and usually feel embarrassed. After creating the similar situations the book guides on how to prepare ourselves to avoid such situations. There is a detailed description of listening skills, which we generally take lightly during our discussions and do not consider a requirement for good communication. But this book has tried to clarify most of the common misconceptions related to communication. This book really gives courage and desire to communicate with the world without fear and openly.

By Chris Abram Call me a twaddling fanboy if you like, but Popkiss is a hugely enjoyable evocation of a lost age of independent music--one that meant a lot to me then and continues to fascinate now. White writes with considerable wit and verve, and I didn't detect any "journalistic errors," though nor was I searching for any. At times I wish he could go into more detail--this book flies by, and there are some avenues not fully explored. But I've been entranced by this peek behind the curtain of a scene that partly defined my youth. Sarah always brought out the haters: plus ca change, it seems.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. and made me a better music fan By Adam Trujillo I went into Popkiss a minor Sarah fan (mostly because of Blueboy and The Hit Parade). I left Popkiss not only with a renewed and expanded interest in Sarah, but with warm fuzzy feelings about indie pop at large and my relationship to it as a fan.The closest comparison I can make is to Simon Reynold's postpunk survey Rip It Up and Start Again. The structures and writing styles of both books are similar, certainly. More importantly, though: both books challenged my perceptions about their subject matters, got me thinking about how I engage with music, and made me a better music fan. Definitely a worthwhile read for anyone interested in 80s/90s indie.

A great historical overview of a wonderful label By too_old_to_be_so_indie I was a big fan of Sarah Records in the early 90's, and this book is a wonderful history of the label and the bands and the people involved. It's a great introduction for people unfamiliar with Sarah, and a great trip down memory lane for existing fans.
