Get ready to dive into the fascinating world of electronics and computer programming By Raviprakash Disclaimer: I was a technical reviewer of the chapter on application of Raspberry-Pi (chapter 14) in this book for the publisher.If you are the kind of person who likes to tinker with electronics and computers than "Python Playground" is definitely a book worth reading. It assumes the reader has moderate level of understanding in computer programming and python language. The author introduces electronics and programming in python through a series of interesting hardware and software projects. The book covers a wide range of topics including text processing, data analysis, plotting, animation, simulation (implementation of some interesting algorithms like Karplus-strong), image manipulation and processing, computer graphics (including 3D) and lastly hardware (electronics, interfacing and fun with Raspberry-Pi). The style of introducing these topics by examples makes this book eminently readable and can get the reader to do useful stuff right off the bat. Personally, I was able to interface numerous electronic instruments to a computer for data capture, analysis and display by using the chapter on Arduino (chapter 12) as reference. The chapters on hardware hacking are an excellent introduction to electronic circuits and other popular hardware like Arduino and Raspberry-Pi. Overall, not only is this a great book to read but also a good reference. I would definitely recommend this book to all of you who are interested in dabbling with electronics and programming.

I can't believe the quality of the projects that Venkitachalam provides.I've been programming with Python for a while now, and I'm tired of so many beginner's books. I'm glad that the author assumes you are familiar with the language and concepts, and he dives right into making awesome projects.You can make a laser light show that responds to sound, you can simulate the sounds of musical instruments, and create 3D particle effects, all using Python.If you want to make cool s***, I HIGHLY recommend this book!

It nicely leads the reader through various programming projects in an easy to read style. There is just enough math and theory to satisfy the curious and the coding style is clear and easy to follow.So, if you ever wanted to understand how auto-stereograms worked and then write the code for it, then you will love this book.

This book is an easy read with a lot of excellent tips for the job seeker. It is very factual and to the point, giving you a checklist of sorts to make sure your job search has all the bases covered. I see a lot of potential hires lose the job because of easily correctable mistakes, which they would have avoided if they had read Laura's book. The price is extremely reasonable, so there's really no excuse not to pick up a copy.

This one's as good as Street Fighter Tribute and Darkstalkers Tribute.The book is 304 pages thick. No dust jacket. The paper is thick low gloss type, thicker than Darkstalkers Tribute. Binding is good (thankfully).Due to the success of earlier Tribute series, there are over 2500 entries submitted for this book but only close to 300 are selected.The variety is incredible, from vector to manga, to 3D model to actual handmade dolls and paper toys. I like the Tribute series because I enjoy looking at the different interpretation by different artist. In a fan art book like this, there are lots of pleasant surprises, artistic style that are wildly different from official game art.The quality of art is also very high. All the artists and their website are just below their illustrations which is really convenient if you want to learn more about the artist.I used to play the game, the earlier series, so this book sure brings back some memories. It features art mainly from the original series, but there are also some art for Mega Man X, Zero, ZX and Legends. The other series probably can have a tribute book on their own.This is a fantastic art book for fans and art lovers.(There are more pictures of the book on my blog. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. An amazing art book for a truly awesome series By Relytia Truly, who doesn't love Mega Man? The Mega Man brand name has produced some of the most exciting, excellently designed titles in the entirety of video game history, regardless of which series you consider. Everyone has some sort of special memory in their heart for Mega Man, and for those who consider him to be one of their most beloved video game franchises, buy this book immediately! It is, in its entirety, a real masterpiece of an art book.First off, this book has about 300 pages, most of which have one big piece of fanart devoted to Mega Man. It's a very nice format that puts the focus purely on the art, with a small bit of text at the bottom with a little info on the artist. The variety of art styles here is amazing, and when you consider these 300 people were selected from over 2,500 submissions for the book, rest assured you are going to be treated to some incredible pieces of visual wonderment. You can expect to find some pieces you'll love more than others, but almost all bring something meaningful to the table in terms of artistic merit. I can't help but have a huge smile plastered over my face while going through this book. It's obvious each artist truly has a passion for the blue bomber, and it showed in their art. This is a book by fans for fans, and for that, it is one of the best art books I have ever seen. No joke. The printing done was fantastic too. The paper is high-quality and the colors are so vivid, it truly compliments and fulfills the original vision each artist had in mind when crafting their submissions. Bravo Udon!There's also a fairly impressive variety of series that are represented in this book as well. A huge portion is devoted to the classic Mega Man series, obviously. There's also a fairly substantial amount of space devoted to the awesome Mega Man X series. In addition to those two, there's also art of the Mega Man Zero series (a personal favorite of mine, especially in its art design. If you believe that too, then getting the Megaman Zero Official Complete Works is a great idea too, as Zero is simply not represented enough in Tribute in my opinion, unfortunately), the ZX series, and the Legends series. If you wanted to see fan art of the Battle Network or the Star Force series, you're out of luck. You can always get their own Udon Official Complete Works art books to scratch that itch. Like I said earlier, the art depicting these truly iconic series is amazing. It just goes to show that Mega Man is truly a special franchise, so universally appealing to the imagination, that everyone has their own unique vision and view of the character and his adventures, and to see some of them depicted so vividly through so many different artists' perspective and style in this book is truly awesome.This is one of the best art books I've ever owned, and definitely a high point in Udon's publication history, but I do have a couple of nit-picky complaints I feel are worth voicing. First off, while I love the variety of subject matter in the book, I can't help but wish it was a little more evenly spread out. The Zero and ZX games get very little space in comparison to Classic and X. I guess that's not surprising, but I would have love to see the real estate devoted to the Zero, ZX, and Legend series be a bit bigger, but that's a small complaint due to my personal preference, and doesn't do anything to bring down the quality of the book itself or its contents. Also, I've gone online and seen some of the submissions that didn't make it into the book and was left scratching my head as to why they were beaten by some of the weaker pieces in the book. I'll be honest, not every single piece is great, and a few are pretty weak and lackluster, in my opinion. Again, that may be purely preferential on my part. I wish/hope Udon does a Mega Man Tribute 2 in the future, as the potential for more incredible art is there, as evidenced by some of the truly spectacular pieces that, for some reason, were not chosen for this edition.I have one more gripe, and this is more technical: the binding is not that great. Udon is known for this problem with their thick paperback books, and it's a problem here especially, due to how huge the book is. It's not a knock against the book, because it is to be expected with such a large book, but you need to be very careful with the book. Even then, you may find the binding start to come undone much sooner than you think. I'm *extremely* delicate with my copy, and even then I noticed the glued spine losing its hold quite quickly. Boo! Personally, I'd say it's worth spending a little more and getting the exclusive hardcover edition from Udon's online store. That edition has an exclusive art piece on its cover and it's obviously a lot more durable than this paperback edition.All-in-all though, this is one of the best, most enjoyable art books I have ever owned personally, and I own quite a few. The subject matter of Mega Man, in all of the five forms included in the book, is a wonderful idea, especially for those who, like me, will always have a special place in their hearts for the Blue Bomber, X, Zero, Volnutt, or even the relatively new yet charming ZX characters, as well as all of their equally lovable supporting casts. It's clear this book was lovingly crafted from hundreds of people who all love Mega Man, for the purpose of being enjoyed by fans of Mega Man. It's an exceptional book, and I give it my highest recommendation. Buy it, enjoy the many unique depictions from Mega Man's spectacular history, and let this awesome celebration of a true gaming icon inspire you.

I spent about 2+ hours enjoying the different takes of the Blue Bomber. When I received the book it was in immaculate condition. HOWEVER the binding is very weak to hold such a massive collection of art work and the pages are of top quality giving each page some weight, thus the pages will, your first time through break away from the spine. The book stays together, it's not leaving the cover but it did break away from it a bit and more so as you look through it over and over again.I highly recommend this book for any art fan and especially any Mega Man fan, just be aware that the binding will break first time through with this soft cover edition. I should have spent the extra money one the hardcover library binder edition and will for future books of this magnitude in the future.

About the Author

Enrico Morteo is an architect, editor, publisher, curator and a consultant of design and architecture. He has curated of a number of important programs and exhibitions including the ADI/ Compasso d'Oro Historical Collection, the Programmare l'arte exhibition for Venice and Milan, 2012–2013, the Uniqueness of Italy exhibition in Rome at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in 2011, the Roberto Sambonet exhibition held in Turin, Brasilia and Sao Paulo in 2008–09 and the exhibition Olivetti: Una bella società shown in Turin in 2008.

Enrico is also the author of a number of books including Grande Atlante del Design and the History of Architecture chapter of the Architecture Encyclopedia Garzanti. He has also worked with major Italian design magazines including Domus, Interni, Abitare, Modo, Lotus and Rassegna. His other cultural contributions include his appointment as Scientific Advisor for the Torino 2008 World Design Capital, his professorship of History of Design at Università IUAV di Venezia (1997–2000), and, since 1993, he has been the author of radio and television programs for the Italian National public broadcasting services Radio3 and RaiSatArt.

A perfect gift, especially for anyone interested in contemporary scientific research or in—to put it broadly—how language works. I'm a longtime fan of the Harper's column from which these findings are drawn. The column works by accretion and juxtaposition, whereas here the findings are presented individually—but I think both ways of bringing out the absurdity are effective. And in the book the illustrations reveal things about the findings that might not be apparent in a text-only format (the illustrations are, after all, interpretations). The interview with the author is similarly revelatory: it's fascinating to learn how these seemingly straightforward sentences are put together so as to maximize the strangeness and hilarity of their content. By the way, a previous reviewer mis-characterizes the interview: the author doesn't talk about himself (and the illustrator isn't part of the interview at all!), he talks about the column, about how language works, about science journalism, about staying interested and discerning in an age of excessive information—it's wide-ranging and a great complement to the laconic findings themselves. Readers seeking "explanations" of the facts are missing the point. One of the pleasures of the book, as well as the column, is suspending the desire to get to the bottom of things and instead just enjoying the presentation. (That said, there is a list of citations for those who must know, and providing citations rather than glosses seems to me a respectful move, respectful of the scientists who did the research and of readers, who get to choose how far to take their curiosity.)

Happily Lost in Findings By athenasowl This unique and devilishly entertaining book is a flight seated next to a modest, witty fellow who happens to know everything you didn't, but wanted to.Findings introduces readers who aren't familiar with the monthly Harper's Magazine to its "Findings" column, a review of actual scientific observations and conclusions, some bizarre, some funny, many with implications that aren't immediately apparent. Many who have the good luck to read Findings will either become addicts and subscribers to Harper's, or will begin visiting their nearest library to delight in the discoveries and the prose by which Mr. Kroll-Zaidi reveals them.Regular readers of his column will be happy to see this collection (including the witty art), and will enjoy learning more about Mr. Kroll-Zaidi's approach to curating and writing the findings.Contrary to an inexplicable comment in another review, the author interview is not about Mr. Kroll-Zaidi. Instead, it is a conversation in which he explains, with examples, how he works to communicate the essence of each finding in the best and briefest way while suggesting larger meanings or connotations in the accretions of findings, illuminations that might otherwise go unnoticed.The author gives us insights into a subtle and demanding craft, as well as a fascinating guide to thinking and writing in English

Hamby I'm bumping this up a star because it made me laugh several times. And that is what I was looking for in such a book. And in clever unpredictable ways that made me think a bit as well.It is rather short and sometimes it felt that it suffered slightly in trying to create a theme for each section. Still this was a fun and enjoyable work of a talent I was unfamiliar with and now shall be on the look out for more.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. this is the perfect place to start By Chuck Yanikoski If you never read a book about the glory days of The New Yorker, this is the perfect place to start. These characters are characters indeed, and Tom Vinciguerra captures the essence of all the key players, and many of the minor ones, with insight, wit, honesty, and a sort of paternal kindness. And if you HAVE read one or more books about those characters in those days, I guarantee that you'll be surprised at how often you're surprised by the new material Vinciguerra has uncovered. And how well he handles it all. He's the calm tour guide through a riot, though a funny one, and one where the rioters are doing mostly good to others, at the cost of some real damage to themselves. Vinciguerra, whom readers of the New York Times have frequently seen in those pages, himself is an excellent writer, one worthy of his subjects -- all the more so in that he doesn't try to compete with them. I think my favorite chapter was one about how alcohol seemed to fuel so much of the action among The New Yorker cast, with both beneficial and tragic effects. For all their foibles, this was a brilliant crew well worth reading about, in a book by a writer who himself is well worth reading.

Wickedly funny, beautifully detailed By Amazon Customer This book is a treasure chest of wickedly funny anecdotes, beautifully detailed history and vivid portraits set against the backdrop of one of American journalism's great cultural treasures. It is poignant, funny and wonderfully told. You will love this book, even if you have never been a steady reader of the New Yorker. What sets it apart from other books about the New Yorker is the author's incredibly thorough research through original archives. His narrative style, combined with excerpts from the lead characters' letters and memos, is like sitting down and opening up a box of long-lost memorabilia and going through the contents piece by piece and losing track of time in the process, because you can't put it down.

Here, Thomas Vincguerra has achieved a level of literary and stylistic excellence to which only a select few can lay claim. Most books in this genre succumb to turgid dreariness or, conversely, fail to sufficiently engage the subject matter. Mr. Vinciguerra has completely avoided both of these pitfalls. He steadfastly and consistently combines solid scholarship, research, and analysis with witty humor and a breezy, yet meaty writing style. It is at once informative and exciting. The author has an incredibly surefooted intuitive sense of how to conjoin rarified and colloquial vocabulary and idiom; thus, in every sentence, he manages to strike exactly the right tone and the ever-elusive *mot juste* appropriate for the long-lost world of mid-20th-century New York wits and bon vivants that he so vividly revives. Gibbs & Co. would be pleased. Buy this one in hardcover!! BRAVO!!!

By Barringer Jennie This book is a great text which shines the light on the benefits of Zen art and it is an amazing introduction for Zen art beginners. For me as a new learner I learned from this book some Zen doodle patterns and I started drawing some of them and this was easy thanks to the explanatory pictures of the patterns . I am enjoying using this book. Very interesting Zen patterns and helpful information. I recommend this book.

It is a lot of fun to relax and not think about everything that vexes me. Really truly, I think any adult can benefit from a zen coloring book. The patterns are a lot of fun and you get to create something beautiful!

I didn't believe and that's why decided to buy this book. I tried to draw doodles and zens. It really relieves stress and helps to pull oneself together. This book contains instructions how to draw zen and doodle butterflies, rats etc.
