About the Author Jane Betteridge is an artist and tutor whose interest in painting stems from childhood. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Just My Style! By Lee Wagar For years I have been an avid paper artist and have taken up mixed media as well. Watercolors are a fairly new medium to me but one I have taken to with a passion! I have purchased many watercolor books, some with tracings and some with detailed pictures to copy, but none of them have really suited my personal art style....therefore, when I saw this book it immediately appealed to me. Reading and thumbing through this book for the past few hours, I have discovered that Jane Betteridge is my kind of artist!! She combines texture and depth with bold color and encourages a person to just enjoy painting and doing what you love. To me, watercolors need not be structured with detailed strokes and specific definition of each feature of a painting. You can do acrylics or oils if that is the type of art you prefer. Her projects are fabulous and include adding beads, string, leaves, shells....mixed media. I can't wait to finish this review and go to my studio to try out her techniques. Her style may not appeal to everyone, but I just love it!

Great watercolor painting tips & interesting techniques. Very user friendly. I think it is a very good book for a beginner as it doesn't get too involved to overwhelm us newbies. There are 7 different detailed project demos laid out nicely. I found the book inspiring. I can't wait to get started. Downsides: 1. I wish the book were longer. 2. She has a DVD, but you have to by it from SAA online company from the UK, so it won't play on US DVD players, but it said should work on laptops. 3. She uses 300lb?-sadly I have 140, watercolor paper because it does need stretching and it can take on a great deal of water. Happy painting!!!!

About the Author A native of Manchester, England, Phillip James Dodd attended the prestigious Prince of Wales' Institute of Architecture in London - where he was taught by many of the architects featured in this book. He received a Degree in Architecture from his hometown university, before moving to America, where he gained a Masters in Architecture from the University of Notre Dame. As a well-regarded expert on classical architecture and interiors, Phillip has worked for some of the most recognized residential architectural firms in America. He is a Fellow Emeritus at the Institute of Classical Architecture (ICA), and Classical America (CA), where from 2006 to 2009 he served as the jury coordinator for the annual Arthur Ross Awards. He has taught classical design at the ICA & CA and at Notre Dame, and has been a guest critic for the Interiors Departments at Parson s School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology.

The book is funny and definitely what we were expecting. However, I was VERY unhappy when I opened the package and saw marks on the front cover. It was especially disappointing since it was a gift for someone else. I'm assuming the marks are from glue or something similar. Luckily they aren't too bad, but definitely noticeable. Anyway, if you're looking for a funny read that's guaranteed to make you laugh, this is a good purchase.

I purchased this as a gift for someone who loves the Tinder Nightmares Instagram page. The book itself is super fun and filled with hilarious "nightmare" conversations. The book itself was slightly beat up when it arrived but I didn't have time to exchange it. The cover was dusty and had markings on it. Surprisingly, this is the first book I've ever received in this condition when buying a new book from Amazon.

About the Author

Morgan Quigley is a cofounder of the Open Source Robotics Foundation (OSRF), which develops and maintains the Robot Operating System (ROS). He came to OSRF after receiving a PhD in computer science at Stanford University, where he created one of the ancestors of ROS as part of the Stanford AI Robot (STAIR) project in 2006 and 2007. As it became clear that the future of robotics software was in collaborative development, this effort led him to cofound the ROS project with many other engineers. His research interests include robot software systems, open source software and firmware, embedded systems design, mechatronics, and sensor design.

Brian Gerkey is cofounder and CEO of OSRF. Prior to joining OSRF, he was Director of Open Source Development at Willow Garage. Previously, Brian was a Computer Scientist in the Artificial Intelligence Center at SRI, and before that, a postdoctoral research fellow in the Artificial Intelligence Lab at Stanford University. Brian received his PhD in computer science from the University of Southern California (USC) in 2003, his MS in computer science from USC in 2000, and his BSE in computer engineering, with a secondary major in mathematics and a minor in robotics and automation, from Tulane University in 1998. Since 2008, he has worked on the ROS Project, which develops and releases one of the most widely used robot software platforms in robotics research and education (and soon industry). He is founding and former lead developer on the open source Player Project, which continues to maintain widely used robot simulation and development tools.

Bill Smart is an associate professor at Oregon State University, where he codirects the Robotics program. His research interests span the areas of mobile robotics, machine learning, human–robot interaction, and the interaction between robotics and the law. Bill has been writing software for robots for over two decades, and doing active research and development of robot software architectures for over 15 years. At Oregon State University, he codirects the Robotics program and teaches classes in robotics and computer programming at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has been a ROS user since the beginning and was involved in some of the early planning workshops for the system. In 2010–11, he spent a 15-month sabbatical at Willow Garage, developing software for PR2 robots and enjoying the weather in California.

By Amazon Customer Two out of the three authors work at OSRF on ROS, hence the expectations are high. The book is very well structured and starts with the basics (topics, services, actions, how to create packages/workspaces). It continues with fairly advanced examples for mobile robotics, including a stocking robot which uses AR-tags for localization of bins. During the process, important packages such as amcl, navigation stack, MoveIt and libraries such as OpenCL are introduced and used. The last part covers useful tips on how to debug a ROS system and how to use the various ROS tools. All discussed examples can be tried in simulation, hence it is possible to follow the book without having access to an actual robot. Everything is done in python and the last chapter covers how to translate things to C++.The major strength of the book is its well defined structure: the online tutorials for ROS are good, but apart from the basic portion not well connected. I am an active user of ROS for about one year and still learned a lot with the book. Of course, there are also topics which are not covered (e.g. UAVs, many specific packages), but it gives a great starting point for ROS. Given that, I think it is a great book for both newcomers as well as intermediate users. Plenty of links in the book refer to additional resources for advanced users.The major issue with the first print of the book is that it seemed hazily compiled in parts: Every 10 pages or so there are very obvious issues: Numbers randomly appearing as the first word of a paragraph, sentences with words missing, sentences with question marks in between where the authors were not sure about the formulation etc. Things which should have definitely captured by proof-reading, even by someone who is not an expert in the domain. Similarly, there are (much fewer) issues with the actual topics such as spelling mistakes in the provided command prompts, or unused code in the provided examples. The book is full of screenshots, which is great for following the material. However, the print quality is surprisingly bad for the price of the book and it is sometimes impossible to see details. Furthermore, authors often refer to colors of the screenshots, but the print version is black and white only. This, of course, is not an issue if you pick up the electronic version which is fully colored.As bottom line, I believe that this can become THE standard book for ROS, at least if it gets polished better in subsequent prints. I wish some of the content would be used to improve the ROS wiki as well.

Leidolf I don't know if this book was intended to be a joke, but if so the joke is on anyone who spends money on it. This was more like a pamphlet than a book. The book is 33 pages, and when it's opened up, the book is smaller than a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 paper - so in essence what you get here is a fifteen page paper. It presents in it's write up as more impressive, with a sociologist as co-author. I like Aziz Ansari's work and was looking forward to it - there's a hint of potential to it, but as it stands, though it gives some interesting highlights, it lacks any real depth.

This digest brings the main points to light and analyzes each well enough to help you decide if you want to read the original (or just participate in your next book club discussion if you didn't).The points discussed are:1- We're not finding our spouses the same ways we used to.2- We're not looking for the same things in spouses as we once did. It's not about financial stability anymore. It's about true love.3- We're texting a lot, but relationship building needs to be done in person.4-Technology has changed creating relationships, including online dating services, but take them as a starting point and get together in person soon. And don't be overwhelmed by the number of people. Focus on a few.5-Technology has changed ending relationships, through text message breakups, online cheating services, and more.6-Relationship norms and expectations are culturally dependent. That isn't so much new, as it is having a growing impact.7-Some experts argue for open relationships with one committed partner, but the ability to shop around for some exciting new experiences.Indeed the message of stop looking at the screen, start looking at the person runs throughout this, and presumably the original and we hear a few times about the benefits of abandoning pure monogamy, which is an usual proposition.I was given a copy to review.

I have to think people that make drunken purchases on Amazon, like myself, make up 90% of sales of this worthless item.

I've always been a bit of a doodler but never really took the craft seriously. Lately I've been getting into drawing images for my book covers but I never seem to be able to capture on paper what I have inside my head. When I saw How To Draw Awesome Cartoons I immediately downloaded the book and studied it carefully. Author Janie Noyes leads the reader step by step to the creation of really well drawn cartoons. I am now using what I've learned in this book to create my own images... ones which I am much more satisfied with than before. I'm not there yet, but with a little practice and a little more guidance from this book, I'll get there!
