Personally, I think that cliche stuff is worth it if I get to talk in the third person and refer to myself as a "jokester") In all honesty- My name is Ryan Doherty, and I'm a professional beach volleyball player. I have had so much fun playing this game, traveling the world, and connecting with fans that I have decided to write a book. This is my attempt at a comprehensive "one-stop shop" for everything the world of beach volleyball has to offer. My aim was to make this book as accessible as possible to a variety of readers, with things for absolute beginners (rules, fundamentals and techniques involved in the game as well as ways to practice them, description of different tournaments, tours, and skill levels) to experts (different ideas for moving with your partner on offense and defense, ways to think about structuring a workout routine, traveling to tournaments that are out of state or in a different country) to people who would prefer to simply watch (volleyball vocabulary, bios and resources for some of the great current players, a bucket-list of tournaments you should see, my overall quick wit and charm). There are even chapters on collegiate sand volleyball, finding sponsors, and things to look for in a coach for those readers looking to take their game to the next level, as well as a chapter dedicated to flirting with other volleyball players. (For those of you working on a different type of game) I tried to keep everything in this book fun and lighthearted, because that is the best way to approach the sport of beach volleyball. I hope you enjoy reading about this great game, I hope it helps you to be a better volleyball player and fan, and I hope to see you out on the sand someday.

By Amazon Customer As a volleyball coach, it was unquestionably useful from a strategic point of view and is definitely abundantly informative for novices looking to learn the game of volleyball. But more than that, Doherty did an outstanding job carrying the book with wit and at times - hilarity. Every page had me laughing to some degree which made the book light and easy to read. Additionally, the behind the scenes of the professional volleyball world including discussions on various Olympians made the read truly fun. A must read for anyone who plays volleyball or is interested in the sport!

If that’s you, you’ll love this book, it’s a behind the scenes look at how one player lives, trains, and competes on the tour.YOU: You’re a wannabe fan. Some attractive guy/girl dragged you to the Manhattan Beach Open, and you’re intrigued by the athleticism, allure, and drama of the game. You’ll love the book because it covers all the basics you need to understand this addicting game and get a real life.YOU: You have no idea what a volleyball is, or how it can change your life. You live in some god forsaken place like Toms River, New Jersey. You’ve never seen a volleyball game outside of your Junior High school, but you know in your heart you could be a Olympic professional volleyball player. You’ll love this book because it’s well written with a good sense of humor. My personal favorite quote is “God never opens a window without slamming a door in your face.” Ryan does a good job entertaining the reader with humor and sarcasm.To sum up: I enjoyed this book; I think you will as well. If you’re looking for a book that dishes dirt on the players on the tour, this isn’t it. I guess $8 isn’t enough to warrant alienating other players. If that’s what you’re looking for, do see “Inside the Player’s Tent” by Billy Strickland. This is without a doubt the best volleyball book ever by 7 foot tall former pro baseball pitchers. Recommended with 5 stars!

Avatar teaches all the fundamentals of the sport. How to set, how to spike & kill. How to play defense. How to guard the line and the net. But as great as a player, as great as a coach, there's one thing he can NEVER teach you. How to be 7'1". At times l wish he stuck to baseball. It would've been soooo cool seeing him do a Tony Conigliaro to A-Rod, Jeter, David Ortiz or Bryce Harper. SIGH! What could've been.

Some knowledge of programming is probably required. I found the book interesting, easy to understand and actually quite an entertaining read. The examples are simple, focusing only on illustrating a single concept at a time. So the examples were really easy to follow. Great book for learning C# and .NET

This is the best C# book currently available By Ticklemecisco Mr. Troelsen's book is the best resource currently available (Nov 2012) for learning C#. His writing style is easy to follow and his examples are error-free. The "Pro" in the title means that this book is not intended for absolute beginners who have never programmed before. If you have prior experience with C# or another object-oriented language, then you will probably have no trouble reading this book. But if you are like me with limited programming experience then another introductory book (I like Microsoft's Step By Step) should be read first. I really like how each topic is presented, starting with the long drawn-out way to get things done and finishing with the elegant shorthand syntax which C# seems to provide for every task. By doing this, I am able to appreciate how well designed the C# language really is. I also like how the examples build on each other as you work through the book. Finally, this book is up-to-date and very complete. It should make a great reference book.

Comparing First and Second Editions By Let's Compare Options Preptorial I've used the first edition of this volume for numerous discrete math and computational computing online classes, and have now gotten feedback from thousands of students. The first edition came in at 4 to 5 stars for my applications, and this review compares this new edition to the previous. There are several unique elements to this comparison that differ from others: 1. The first edition is still a wonderful and valuable asset, and is selling as such on Amazon, with prices HIGHER for used than this new edition in some cases! So the frequent publisher rip off of creating "new" with minimal changes just to make students pay more does not apply at all in this case at this writing. 2. "New" also applies to fields with rapid changes that require extensive updates for research. In this case, the field goes back to the 1980's in computation (and 1950 in math) with $15 Dover editions that cover the basics very well, especially general numerical methods. The main "fast moving" aspect of the field is software, parallel processing and specific application examples, and both editions' true value have been, since 2003, in the very specific code examples in extremely detailed example applications, both research and applied.Other reviews of the previous edition knocked the format as too specific and difficult for a first undergrad numerical methods class. The reason for this IMHO after using it for more specialized classes is that if you are covering parallel processing carefully, you NEED PDE systems (my handle on wiki is pdecalculus to show my bias) or you'll be TOO general and not able to give as many applied examples as these fine texts do, especially in the key, hot field of parallel.To quote Gehring and Ramme, "Hundreds of papers have been written about scheduling models in parallel systems, however, there is a huge discrepancy in what is studied and what can be applied." Job Scheduling Strategies for Parallel Processing: 18th International Workshop, JSSPP 2014, Phoenix, AZ, USA, May 23, 2014. Revised Selected Papers (Lecture Notes in Computer Science) p. 72 in Hawaii conference, et al in Phoenix.Given that discrepancy, this is NOT a good text in either edition as a vast and general overview of numerical methods, but both are IDEAL texts if your objective is total immersion in a LOT of code (Matlab, GNU Octave, Domain specific parallel problems, etc.) with UNIQUE and FUN practical examples throughout the 500 pages, albeit focused on PDE systems and parallel.The first edition was outstanding for online resources, and this second is even better. With a C++ compiler, if you are an autodidact, you don't need an expensive Matlab license to take advantage of the plethora of "wash on wash off" coding exercises and examples, and the resulting graphics and solutions are stunning. Some examples obviously are intended for supercomputing environments, and Coursera has been kind enough to allow hundreds of my students access even after finishing a course. Even without it, a good solid PC can handle 90% of the examples, as the authors did not assume that all students would be in supercomputing environments, and the online resources are generous with hints and solutions. All in all, given current pricing and the many new developments in parallel architectures, I strongly recommend this edition over the first, which is unusual since I like saving students money. In this case the new edition does both.Final point: this is intended for undergrads, but the emphasis on PDEs puts it more as a specialized course for Seniors or grad students. You don't HAVE to be a math major, but if you're getting into computational computing, or especially careers in the hottest area of computing (parallel embedded), this information is a MUST today. It is NOT easy material, and autodidacts, if not strong in PDEs, will need a tutor to help them along.Highly Recommended. Note: I get quantity discounts from publishers for students, but paid full price for both editions of my own copies here on Amazon, and did not solicit or accept review copies, for the sake of objectivity.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. A Godsend When You Need It! By Cavity Search I work deep in immigration law, and frankly, I almost never use this thing. In fact, I bought this when I couldn't find my 2011 Field Guide, which was probably buried under a bunch of other junk I can't find. If I used it every day, well, I'd probably have two of them, and I'd know right where they are at all times.That said, when it comes time to figure out of an alien derived US citizenship through a parent, or some other obscure situation that rarely arises (at least in my specialty), this guide will fill your heart with joy and wonder. Alright, that's a bit much, but you'll be mighty glad you have it. Rather than sifting endlessly through law books old and new, or looking for that homemade chart that you dearly hope is up-to-date, you just whip out this guide, flip through a few pages, and there's your answer in black and white! Yay!I usually buy an updated one every three or so years, however this time I was holding off as our honest and hard working politicians (cough) were supposedly going to "fix" our "broken" immigration system. Turns out they had better things to do...it is beyond belief they would say such things just to get elected (big cough).Point is, though I didn't want to spend the money, I did anyway, because I hate being without this handy little book.Highly Recommend!

This is a tiny little reference, but packed with lots of great info. It's an excellent quick resource to have on hand. It's no match for Kurzban's or AILA LINK, but it's great in a pinch or for a starting reference. I'm currently using it to fashion an intro to immigration law course for my new staff attorney and some of our law student interns. The layout of the Field Guide is intuitive and perfect for attorneys new to immigration.

Is that a joke? :-( By Jordi Downloaded (or bought) this book that the title was: Agar.io "cheats", "hacks"... more like pages with nothing.One thing that tought it was usefull was how to download it in the computer, but really like 20 or 40 pages just to explain how to donload agar.io!!QUICK TIP: if you want to find a guide just search it on the web or download it on [...] , I'm not saying to not buy anithing from this guy, just sayin' that this guide is pathetic (like other ones here in amazon)
