By Lia I own a ton of writing books, but struggle on the concept of plotting and outlining an entire story. This book helps you to set up the characters and the beginning of the story, and then pants your way through to the end, since a writer is bound to stray from the original outline anyway. Nina Harrington has written tons of category Romances, so she knows her stuff. She also gives examples of her own work in this book, and since I am very much a 'learning by example'-type of girl, I liked this a lot.Also don't forget to check out the additional resources on her website.If you're looking to make a career in writing category romance, this book should definitely on your list!

I've tried so many methods to outline my writing and utterly failed at every single one. I do so much better just writing, honestly. So, I'm going to say right off the bat this book is right up my alley based on the title alone. I knew going into the reading that I wouldn't find much fault in her methods. Honestly, I still haven't. My issues with the book have nothing to do with the process or even the writing.Nina is knowledgable on how to get your idea and your characters onto the paper without stressing yourself out over every detail in the plot. I've spent this morning, after reading most of it last night, putting her process into play. So far, I've learned a lot about my characters and why they start out feeling as they do. The two sentences of my starter idea have expanded to the point I'm ready to start writing. My hand needs a break from all the pre-writing I did this morning, but I'm ready to start writing. Please don't let the words pre-writing scare you. It's all free writing with your characters talking to you and discovering what makes their story worth telling. I didn't know much about my hero, but now I know enough about him to see he's going to be interesting and not just a handsome face for the heroine to fall in love with. I'm looking forward to discovering their story.By now you're probably saying something like "It sounds like you really enjoyed the book and found it useful. So, why the four stars instead of five?" Since I haven't actually sat down to write the idea in its entirety, I don't feel I can give it five stars until I've done so. Yes, I know I could have waited until I see it to its completion, but then I'd forget to come review and this book is wonderful if you write romance and freeze up at the thought of outlining the whole story before you can write a word. In other words, it's been the best non-outlining way of planning my novel that I've attempted yet.Now to my issues. As I said they have nothing to do with the process or the writing. The typos. Granted there weren't many of them, but the one or two places they happened made me have to go back and read the sentence again to understand what she was trying to say. One there's an out instead of an our. The other I still can't decipher. Neither one detract from the meat of the process, but my brain latches onto them and won't let go. My own issue, I know.On the whole, for $2.99, this book is a great deal. If you hate outlining but don't mind pre-writing to find your story beyond your initial inspiration, this book is for you. I think it has helped me take the process I already use and expanded it so I'm on more sure footing when I start writing.

Good book for fair-to-middlin' players By Mark Bell I like this book.It has hymns arranged in playable keys for guitar (none of those gol-durned 'golf clubs' in the key signature). You get the hymns with music and chords. One thing that I like is that most of the hymns have older, more original words than the hymnal that we use at church (Hymns For The Family Of God), and usually all of the verses.The selection of hymns is good.

Overall, it is just okay.The song selection is very good. The arrangements are mediocre at best; but they allow for easy simplification or embellishment (depending on skill levels). The skill level required varies so that players of most any level will find something they can play with a little effort.My biggest issue is that the TAB is mostly illegible, at least in the copy that I received. The fret numbers in the TAB are so small and jammed together that it is impossible to read most of it.My suggestion is to re-transcribe the songs you want to work on using a computer so that you can print out TAB that can be read easily. The chords are the most difficult to read; but you can make them out well enough to figure out the chord voicing/fingering (very slowly...) and then write it out so you can read it easily. The chords are mostly open chords using the most common voicings.

By russscript I was disappointed to find that this is not a finger style guitar book; since the description includes TAB and notation, I assumed these would be arranged hymns for the classical or finger-style guitarist. instead, the hymns consist of:Lead and one part harmony vocal lines ,Chords,and the the chords written out in TAB and notation in a simple strumming pattern with a few very basic fills and bass linesIf you have problems with strumming from a chord chart and would like every individual strum notated in very cramped TAB and notationthan this book is for you. the strumming is very simple and I would say any player with a little imagination could come up with a style as good or better than the patterns provided.on the good side, the book contains a nice large selection of common hymns with ALL the verses, and the two part vocal lines are nice for singing with a partner.so, a good "fake" style hymn book, just don't expect much use for the TAB and notation.

The bad guys don't wear black hats or laugh maniacally, but a good one might just have some of the same problems as the novel's hero or heroine. In this brief book, Hall outlines villain archetypes, gives ideas on implementing archetypes without creating cardboard antagonists and each section ends with an assignment to try out. Clear yet not simplistic, I will be using WRITING ABOUT VILLAINS in my novel writing classes. I recommend this book for all fiction writers.

By Rune_1975 I found the book enlightening, it tries to describe some of the most used types of villains used in fiction, and also how to deepen their traits making them believable characters.The book solidifies things you may have noticed earlier, but have not been able to put your finger on and describe.It should also be interesting for readers. If you read a lot of books this book reveals many of the tricks used in those books. I immediately recognized characters from several of the books I have read before. giving me the insight to see what the writer had done to make the character so believable.For a writer it will give tips on how to construct a believable villain. You may already be using some of these techniques without knowing, but I found it fun to analyze my own writing with the tips in this book.I would recommend this book to you if you want to see how villains can be made from the ground up. Either as a writer or as a reader. I have seen stories out there that could have been improved using techniques from this book.

By Miss_Configuration I was having trouble reading it on my devices because there were 2 pages squeezed onto each page side-by-side which made the print appear more than twice as small as standard, and was nearly impossible to read on my mobile devices without excessive zooming and scrolling. Well the book has recently been reformatted and is much better. Now that I am able to read it, I am finding it to be interesting, relevant, concise, well organized, and well written. Chris has provided good examples which really help the reader understand the concepts, and he has a great way of simplifying the denser content of the Cisco books and extracting the most important points to focus on for the exam. Thanks for such an "on target" book, and I'm updating my review as promised.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I love Chris Bryant and his material but this format is just not good. By mm I love Chris Bryant and his material but this format is just not good. I am reading the book on Kindle for PC. It shows 2 pages at a time squeezed onto the screen. I don't see a way to make it a single page. The print is kind of small and actual CLI commands in the book are faint. I have a 22 inch monitor and still struggle to read this at times. You can make the print larger but then you have to scroll up and down and sideways to read everything. I am a tech guy and don't like paper but I almost wish I had ordered the hard copy.

My only problem with it is the side-by-side 2 page display, I have to turn my tablet sideways to read it, makes for shorter pages and not as easy to read.Update - 21 April 16Just downloaded the new version and I like the formatting. If the content is the same I know it will be great.BTW Chris, it's a Dell Venue 10 running Android.

About the Author Bob Shiel got on the Dylan train a little late in the game in 1970 and, in line with Dylan's counsel, has not looked back...well, not until writing 61 Highways Revisited. Chicago songwriter, recording artist, educator, writer, devoted reader, old-timer athlete, kindergarten yoga practitioner, advanced certified yoga instructor, and certainly quite the Dylan fan, upon retiring from 27 years as a community college English teacher, Shiel set out to tackle the monster topic of the albums of Bob Dylan in a manner that would mirror a Bob Dylan song. Daunting, no doubt. Yet, clearly intellectual candy yearning to burst forth. Shiel's next book, in between recording an audio book of his Dylan retrospective, aims to tell a few autobiographical stories from the heart, dropping a few pearls of tidbits along the way. All while continuing to write, record, and release new musical material suiting his fancy. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. This volume is just as clever as the title. By Amazon Customer This was an easy-to-digest, excellent overview of Dylan's body of work. I didn't read the chapters in order, just in the order I wanted to read them, which didn't take anything away from the experience. His takes on "Self Portrait" and the three eighties albums he thought were not up to par seemed to validate what others have been saying.

By KERNZ I used to go into a Greenwich Village record store called SUBTERRANEAN RECORDS, frequently. they had an astonishing inventory of boot-leg CDs and vinyl. Stuff you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else. They had Dylan riches, a browser's paradise,and the place was trulysubterranean. That was no mere Dylan tie-in, it was a cave! Dangerously steep concrete steps below the busy traffic of Cornelia street and intochurch. I used to get into meandering Dylan conversations with KENNY, the young fellow manning the place most nights. Kenny was hardcorerock and roll, as any true Dylan aficionado should be, no SMITHS, no YES, no JOANIE MITCHELL....no crap. He related to me a tale I foundknee-bending hilarious, saying he once forced some guy off the premises for mentioning THE HOLLIES one too many times. I asked him oncewhen discussing Dylan nuts, if he didn't think we, or at least I, wouldn't fit all too comfortably in that category. "Oh no way", he said. "These guyswant me to throw everything out but Dylan and make it a Temple.Mr. Shiel's book; 61 HIGHWAYS REVISITED has the grit, the authenticity and the shock of truth plainly told of SUBTERRANEAN RECORDSwith Kenny sitting in. SHIEL has the open hearted love of Brother BOB that it takes after the veritible mountain of biographical texts whichhave accumulated since ANTHONY SCADUTO kicked it all off back in the stone age. Innocent honest love and respect with profound psychologicalinsight mixed with cold iron sledge hammer criticism when called for allows SHIEL while going over familiar detail to come up with an impossiblyfresh book. 61 albums, he covers each one and highlights the recent 25 years which have been towering testament to the monsterous unfathomableness of Dylan's genius. Bravo Mr. Shiel.

Great fun and a great read. I have 30 of Dylan's albums and this book has made want to pick up a few more (Tell Tale Signs...I'm looking in its direction).>> I enjoyed how the author shared some of his personal history when reviewing the albums (where he was living when they came out, what his life was like, etc). All of us Dylan fans share a personal connection to these albums.I highly recommend this book. It's full of information and it's funny as heck.>

My favorite part was chapter 5 wich was about mental health because alot of the startagies provided will help me relieve some of the stress in my own personal life. As a single mother both I faced situations that Ms. Wade outlines in her book and I think her ideas make very good sense and are clear and easy to read and implement. I found her information on cooking a roast (prime rib!) in the microwave to be intriguing.This book will be helpful to all wanting to stay on a budget and live well at the same time.
