David Downton is right up there with illustrators Rene Gruau and Kenneth Block! Great book for the lover of fashion illustration or the aspiring artist who wishes to study the technique of a genius! Loving this book.

Downton, in my humble opinion, is one of the most influential fashion illustrator, and once you view his work, you will understand. His work is minimal, yet so hard to replicate (I've tried believe me, I've tried), and that puts him into a league, which he deserves, all of his own. Okay, enough of the flattery. As for the book, full of illustrations, printed on a nice weighty stock, nicely oversized, and a treat to thumb through. It's a treasury of this illustrator's work.

16 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Headbanger's Ball By Jordan L. Taylor For those who may not know or remember Anthrax was a big deal back in the 80s and early 90s. For metal people, and especially for those of us growing up in rural areas, the only real exposure we had to metal music was Headbanger's Ball on MTV which burned a lot of Anthrax material into our collective brains. Unlike some of the slower plodding metal that was prevalent back then Anthrax's brand of thrash metal was pedal to the metal from beginning to end. Sometimes I will hear an old 80s track of some thrash band and be like 'oh yeah, I remember these guys'. Anthrax is not them, Anthrax is Anthrax. If you grew up listening to these guys, you won't forget them, and when you hear it you'll know what you're listening to.The book itself is well written and candid. Scott Ian is a naturally honest guy, and you will get a little dirt about some of the bands that paralleled Anthrax such as Metallica and Megadeth. I'm finding lately a few metal biographies floating around and some are written poorly while others seem sugar coated. You will find neither in this book. And as expected Scott Ian is such a nice guy the book isn't about him but the people in the periphery of his metal experience. He was a key witness in the explosion of metal music in the 80s, and instead of getting the canned interviews from MTV and overpriced VHS tapes we are now getting something more genuine and honest. Frankly even if you are not into metal, this is a great perspective from an important moment in American music history - and again, as a reminder for some, metal in the 80s had a significant voice and following.The only criticism, which is minor, is the typeface used for the kindle. It sucks basically. But I stopped noticing after about four or five pages.Recommendation: Buy it.

By MizMoore I bought the e-book yesterday and finished it today (I'm a fast reader) and I loved it. I've been an Anthrax fan since "Among the Living" came out and it's always interesting to find out more about the personalities and history behind the music I like - also interesting to find out Scott and I liked a lot of the same early 80's metal bands too. I didn't know about the early Metallica/Anthrax connection in NYC and I thought it was cool that both bands were up and coming at the same time. Scott tells his story in a straightforward and humorous way and this book is a great read for any Anthrax fan or fan of metal biographies. Hope he has a book signing in Philly so I can tell him how much I liked it in person.

By Virgos Merlot To my surprise, this was a book that was almost as good as their last record. Even the introduction by Kirk Hammet was sincere. He discusses the challenges of having the band with all of the various singer changes, early days, their decline in the 90's, the ups and downs financially with actual numbers involved. Anthrax is a band that I always thought was cool and different with a few great songs. I could never find myself listening to an entire Anthrax album to completion like I could with Metallica's "Master of Puppets" or Slayer's "Seasons in the Abyss," but god damn Scott Ian wrote the best music autobiography of the year!

All of these homes are sited in wooded or wilderness areas and their design is staggeringly beautiful. I have been an architect for 37 years and viewing these works is almost a religious experience for me. The designs are richly detailed in both steel, concrete, wood and glass. The houses are perfectly located on beautiful natural sites. The architects both listen to their clients needs but also the needs of the site. Hence the title: LISTENING. Buy all three volumes of this series, if you can.

Based on an exhibition at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Segmented Realities compiles a group of five paintings and ten sculptural paintings by Cuban-American painter José Parlá (born 1973). Each of the works suggest fragments salvaged from urban sites that have experienced social upheaval and transformation; like his segments of walls in Havana, New York, London or the Berlin Wall, Parlá's sculptures bear witness to the waves of history inscribed on their surfaces, told in the poetic language of the city--surfaces bearing layers of marks on which ensuing generations might imagine their own manifestos and declarations of selfhood. With an essay by curator Michael Rooks, this hardcover is a gorgeous documentation of Parlá's latest project. Parlá is also known for recently completing a commissioned 90-foot mural for the lobby of One World Trade Center in New York City, a mural at the Barclays Center and also at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

About the Author Jose Parla (born 1973) has received critical acclaim for his works, which lie at the boundary between abstraction and calligraphy. Composed from layers of paint, gestural drawing and found ephemera, his work evokes the histories of urban environments. Parla is a documentarian of city life. In Medias Res, Parla's second solo exhibition with Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in New York City opened in Chelsea in 2014. In 2012, the 11th Havana Biennial selected The Wrinkles of the City: Havana, Cuba project, a vertically integrated collaboration between Parla and French artist JR, and exhibited in 2013 at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery. Parla and JR co-directed a documentary by the same title that was awarded the Grand Prize for Documentary Short and Best U.S. Premiere Documentary Short in 2013 at The Heartland Film Festival, Indianapolis. In 2014, Parla was commissioned to create a 90-foot-long mural painting for the entrance of One World Trade Center, which he has entitled: ONE: Union of the Senses.

This book was a good introduction for the complete beginner who is looking to understand (in broad terms) all of the various opportunities available in the financial sector. For anyone who grew up in the 80s, 90s, 2000s if you're like me at some point you've had visions of being the next Gordon Gekko, making trades and making fortunes in the market. Looking beyond private equity + corporate raiders of the 80s/90s, It's interesting to read about the numerous and wide array of opportunities in the financial sector, some of which I'd never given any thought to. Looking forward to a follow-up from this author -- we've got the what, now we need the 'how-to'. :) Have heard these jobs typically cater to Ivy-leaguers, so how does the average Joe find the fast track to success? Could make for an interesting follow-up.

It could go a little bit into the detail in my opinion, but i guess author tried to keep it simple and short. It is a good start, i will probably read more on the web and maybe talk to some people in the positions already. Book is motivating for sure.

The book is of standard size. 8 1/2 x 11, for dimensions so like the size of a notebook.I got mine with my game at the Call of Duty midnight release.PROS:Detail OreientedShows All Yo Kai - except some special Nyan's I assume will be extra content in the future.Colourful glossy pagesShows all location maps, shops, quests, story walkthrough, all items, secret locations, how to use Street pass, YoKai cam etc,gives bios of the characters for newcomers including the main characters (Eddie, Nate, Katie etc) also shows show how to upgrade yo Kai , their special skillsplus more! thoroughly impressed thus far. I will upload pictures later today!CONS:Some typos (but that's prima) nothing impactful to the game so farthe glossy paper is fragile- do not have lotion hands or greasy hands. I've have this incident with a sims prima guide with this material where it rubbed off some ink. it's the type of paper used. That glossy, Thick , sticky feel. Colours are vibrant though. Just be careful! otherwise it's a great guide thus far.It outlines everything in the game there is way more to do than I thought. and I thought there was already a lot. I spent an hour playing last night and an hour distracted by the pretty guide haha

He knows pretty much everything about Yo-Kai Watch at this point By Echota My son was SO thrilled to receive this book to go along with his Yo-Kai watch game. He loves being able to look up all the characters and their stats, and walkthroughs and maps of the levels. The pictures are full color. He keeps this near him always, as he plays Yo-Kai Watch daily, and likes to have this book as a reference for the Yo-Kai.He says it's a very valuable addition to the gameplay. This and YouTube videos, of course. He knows pretty much everything about Yo-Kai Watch at this point. I recommend this highly!
