The author cuts through all the nonsense and feel-good tacticool B.S. and outlines drill that will make you a better defensive shooter instead of a person engaged in turning money into noise at the square range.

Grant does a great job of communicating the essence of Combat Focus Training techniques and is full of practical advice and drills for improving your gun handling and defensive shooting skill set. He does a good job of covering technique, drills and expert advice for improving your combat shooting skills. If he ever holds a class near me, you can bet I'll make the time to attend one of his live training sessions.

A great way to let someone know you care about them and are praying for them. Also lets the recipient know a patronal Saint to pray to and perhaps read more about. I only wish these cards contained a prayer or more background information about the saint printed on them, but perhaps that would be too heavy-handed or proselytizing. Better to look that up and write it in yourself!

It is familiar to anyone with some experience in one or more of the C-family languages. However, hidden in the similarities are several differences that can be surprising when trying to apply common idioms from other languages. When learning D on your own, this can make it more time-consuming to master. In order to make the most of the language and become an idiomatic D programmer, it's necessary to learn how to think in D.

This book familiarizes you with D from the ground up, with a heavy focus on helping you to avoid surprises so that you can take your D knowledge to the next level more quickly and painlessly.

Your journey begins with a taste of the language and the basics of compiling D programs with DMD, the reference D compiler developed by Digital Mars, and DUB, a community-developed build utility and package manager. You then set out on an exploration of major language features. This begins with the fundamentals of D, including built-in types, conditionals, loops and all of the basic building-blocks of a D program, followed by an examination of D's object-oriented programming support. You'll learn how these features differ from languages you may already be familiar with. The chapters are built on examples that are easy to follow, yet provide enough detail to be of use in your own projects. The individual sections are packed with so much information that you'll want to read through them several times.The author is a gifted writer. D programmers are very lucky to have a resource like this available. It's like Knuth decided to write a book on the D programming language.

If you are interesting in learning a D language and have some basic knowledge in any of similar languages like C++, C, Java, C#.... This book is definitely right for you. If you are already familiar with D ( or even advanced in D same as me :) ) this book will help you to extend your knowledge and clarify them.

A Solid Introduction to the D Programming Language By Dylan Allbee What I love about Michael Parker's treatment of D is that he manages to give an overview which is both comprehensive and understandable. His examples contain only the relevant portions, keeping the focus away from implementation boilerplate. Parker also does a very good job of pointing out potential mistakes to avoid and provides tips for coding idiomaticallyThere are several sections of the book (mostly in the "Taking D to the Next Level" chapter) which should have either received more attention, or simply have been left out.I'd recommend reading this for anyone interested in D with at least some background in programming.

The book uses numerous activities to present the different cases of the arabic letters which is usually a challenge for kids to comprehend, however the activitesmakes it vey easy for them to grasp. The colored version is so eye catchy and the black and white gives kids hours of painting while learning. I love the book and highly recommend it .

A travel narrative that tells it like it is, through the eyes of someone who literally was clueless and thus "objective" in a way. People don't do this much anymore ... they're hemmed in by what experts tell them to do and with what. Also, we Americans forget too easily that we live different, and that we are, largely, ungrateful.

The experience of a lifetime By CRJ I'm an avid sailor, so I checked this book out from the library, but I expected to read a little and quickly lose interest. But I found it impossible to put down. The sailing story is fun, but it's much more than a book about sailing. And it's written so no knowledge of sailing is needed to enjoy reading the book. I relived the captivating wonders of "discovering" sailing about 40 years ago, my own adventures and misadventures (that naysayers also told me I couldn't do), and most important - the unique beauty and exhilaration sailing/boating adds to a full life for many, certainly me.Her writing style is charming and imaginative, with interesting backstory flashbacks that fill out the story. I believe a life with no risk taking may be a life not fully lived, and the book epitomizes that essential lesson. Jimmie and Amy push their limits, within reason, and reap great rewards as a result. If you like stories of adventurous spirits, with a hip young vibe, you won't be able to put this book down either.

A manifesto for living an adventurous/insane/wonderful life By Dale Bridges Beware: after reading this book, you'll have the urge to do wonderful, stupid things. This book makes you want to live, but like REALLY live. It makes you want to change your life, to take risks you never thought you had the courage to take. Because that's what Amy and Jimmie do. So many people talk about living a life of adventure, disregarding the pressures and demands of mainstream society, but how many actually do it? Answer: almost none. And the thing about this book that will get under your skin is that it's not that hard. These guys didn't know jack about sailing, didn't have six figures in the bank, didn't have a backup plan. They just bought a boat and hit the high seas. Is that advisable? Nope. Could they have died? It sounds like that could have happened on several occasions. But they're here to tell the tale. The Box Wine Sailors is a wake-up call to a generation of apathetic hipsters sitting at home pretending life is meaningless.

The Noguchi Museum provides a unique perspective on the artwork of Isamu Noguchi and its setting in the Noguchi Museum through the eyes of renowned photographers Stephen Shore and Tina Barney. Noguchi, a modernist sculptor and designer, founded and designed the museum for the specific purpose of exhibiting his works. The 1920s-era industrial space in Long Island City, Queens, thus became the first and only museum in the US to be designed by a living artist for the artist's own work.

Shore has photographed individual works on view at the museum, documenting them in new and surprising ways; and Barney has photographed visitors at the museum and its events, capturing something of the spatial experience of the museum. These new photographs comprise a beautiful object that pays tribute to the museum and artwork while highlighting the skill and eye of these two photographers.

This is the only book that focuses on the unique dynamic between the museum's artworks, architecture, and visitors and the museum celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2015, coinciding with publication.

About the Author

Stephen Shore is one of the most influential photographers living today. His photographs from the 1970s, taken on road trips across America, established him as a pioneer in the use of colour in art photography. He has been director of the Photography Program at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, since 1982. In 1971 Shore became the first living photographer to have a solo exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. His photographs have since been exhibited internationally, including the Tate Modern's first exhibition of photography 'Cruel and Tender' in 2003. His work has been collected by museums around the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Tina Barney is an American fine art photographer. She studied photography in the 1970s at the Sun Valley Center for Arts and Humanities and completed workshops with Duane Michals and Nathan Lyons, among other prominent photographers. She is the recipient of a Lucie Award for Achievement in Portraiture and a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Artist's Fellowship. Barney's work is included in numerous public collections, including: the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Art Institute of Chicago; the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House, Rochester, NY; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.

One expects a photographic monograph on the Noguchi Museum; that is, photographs of the museum and its collection, with related essays. What you get instead are photographs of patrons looking at the museum and its collection -- like a promotional brochure -- or photographs of people posing beside the art -- like souvenir snapshots or odd staff portraits. A more fitting title would have been, "People at the Noguchi Museum".Stick with "The Isamu Noguchi Garden Musuem" (New York: Abrams, 1987) instead.

About the Author Clare Jones was born in the North of England in 1960. She fell in love with the French language at the age of 11 and went on to study it to degree level at Leicester University, where she also became a qualified teacher. In 2011 Clare collaborated with Tamsin Edwards to produce an iPhone application, “Figure out French, Rouler un patin: to give a French kiss and other French expressions for leisure and health”. Though she now lives in England, Clare always has her nose in a French book and she surrounds herself by all things French. She is currently very busy teaching French as a private tutor and when she finds time, she writes a blog on the subject of the French language. She is very active on Twitter. Clare enjoys swimming, tai-chi and cycling in the local country park.

About the Author Linda Dacey, consultant and professor emeritus at Lesley University, has always believed that learning mathematics should be conceptually based and enjoyable. Her major interests are problem solving, number sense, and strategies for differentiation. Linda is the coauthor with Anne Collins of the Zeroing in on Number and Operations series, as well as other titles focused on teaching mathematics at the K-2 level.Karen Gartland is a mathematics coordinator and classroom teacher at Groton-Dunstable Middle School. She enjoys working with students of all ages with a focus on conceptual understanding of mathematics through critical thinking and application as well as best practices for integrating technology. Karen is also an adjunct faculty member at Lesley University.  Jayne Bamford Lynch is a district math instructional coach in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she spends most of her days in elementary classrooms supporting coaches, teachers, and students. Jayne presents workshops for teachers, administrators, and parents on a multitude of topics and is also a National Faculty member of the School of Education at Lesley University.

WELL PLAYED Building Mathematical Thinking Through Number Games and Puzzles, is not your typical book of math games.Not only does this book include games and puzzles that focus on the major topics in mathematics that many of our students struggle with, but it provides instructional strategies and teaching tips for creating mathematical communities in the classroom, promotes collaborative problem-solving, math talk, and productive struggle-----all practices of mathematically proficient students!This is a great resource for teachers!WHEN are the books for grades K-2 and 6-8 coming out???

Well Played is the book for me this year! I'm excited to use the games and puzzles to engage my students in mathematical conversations and much more. Every Friday we have Math Center day with different games, investigating good math sites with their chrome books or meeting with the teacher for extra reinforcement. The class really looks forward to Fridays.I find that kids learn more if the concept is in a form of a game and it’s fun! Five of a Kind is a truly wonderful game for all 3rd graders to play. It focuses on relating multiplication and division and dividing or finding missing factors up to 100. Every year we hear that kids need to know their facts. I played this game in my Friday Centers and the students loved it. They sat in a circle of 4 and got 5 cards each with different missing quotients and missing factors. They kept passing the cards to get 5 cards that have the same missing factor and they yell, “Five of a kind!” The students really got to see the connection between multiplication and division in a fun way. I feel this game has helped them learn their facts! About the Author

Matt Neuburg started programming computers in 1968, when he was 14 years old, as a member of a literally underground high school club, which met once a week to do timesharing on a bank of PDP-10s by way of primitive teletype machines. He also occasionally used Princeton University's IBM-360/67, but gave it up in frustration when one day he dropped his punch cards. He majored in Greek at Swarthmore College, and received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1981, writing his doctoral dissertation (about Aeschylus) on a mainframe. He proceeded to teach Classical languages, literature, and culture at many well-known institutions of higher learning, most of which now disavow knowledge of his existence, and to publish numerous scholarly articles unlikely to interest anyone. Meanwhile he obtained an Apple IIc and became hopelessly hooked on computers again, migrating to a Macintosh in 1990. He wrote some educational and utility freeware, became an early regular contributor to the online journal TidBITS, and in 1995 left academe to edit MacTech Magazine. He is also the author of Frontier: The Definitive Guide and REALbasic: The Definitive Guide. In August 1996 he became a freelancer, which means he has been looking for work ever since. He is the author of Frontier: The Definitive Guide and REALbasic: The Definitive Guide, both for O'Reilly & Associates.

But in the case of the book I felt compelled to do so. Here is why.I have been working as professional software architect and developer for many years. A part of my job is constant learning of new IT technologies- otherwise my skills could become outdated rather quickly.I have been looking recently for a good book on iOS/Swift development and I have bought few of them. Unfortunately most books didn't really explain overall logic of APIs and development processes; they were mostly concentrating on minute details and providing instructions like "click here" and "add this code there" leaving to the reader a difficult task of reconstructing the overall picture.Maybe this works for somebody else, but not for me. To be able to do software development I need to know why I am doing something and what options I have. Matt's book provides exactly this info and at the same tome it gives all those small details as well. Overall, it is a perfectly balanced book for learning iOS/Swift development as far as I am concerned. If I were to select a book I would buy for learning this, I would buy this one for sure.Obviously, entire universe of iOS/Swift development is too big a topic for a single book. This book does not teach Swift language and it assumes that the reader is reasonably familiar with the language. It also does not cover certain important frameworks. Still, I think it is "must have" for somebody who like I learn iOS/Swift development.

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The best possible companion for the serious iOS developer! By David H. I'm an experienced Apple developer (over 10 years) who jumped on iOS early on. That said, Matt ALWAYs has invaluable tips and explanations in his iOS books that are just not easily found elsewhere. The most important aspect to these books is not the code, but that he explains how various features / frameworks work while providing best practices and advice on how to avoid pitfalls.Really, I just don't know how I could stay in this business without his book near by!
