11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Lovely, fun, and creative book! By Jean Baldridge Yates 60 Quick Cowls is a vibrant and charming collection of cowls the reader can make using merino/alpaca blend yarns. What a wow of a book! If you have some familiarity with knitting, there will be plenty of projects for you to try. The projects are all gorgeous; soft and pretty. A cowl knits up fast and is definitely fashion-forward, just as the book says. The projects range in skill level from one to four (a "four" level project is one where the knitter is able to work patterns with complicated shaping and finishing). Most of the projects are on a level two to three range. All the projects call for Cloud or Duo Yarns from Cascade. Cascade is a family owned business which was founded in 1987 and is going strong. It is no wonder, either, when you see the amazingly chic and lovely cowls offered in 60 Quick Cowls. The book opens with a fun section explaining where alpaca comes from. Called "Peruvian Gold", alpacas are also raised in North America. They are very light on their feet and barely harm the environment in any way. They are sweet, gentle animals who are members of the Camilid family. They are directly descended from vicunas. If you have never felt vicuna fabric, you are not alone, as this fabric is very expensive and rare. It was originally guarded like treasure. It is still used sparingly. Only Incan royalty could wear it for years. Alpaca is nearly as soft. It is called "the cashmere of the Andes".Once the reader has been introduced to the alpaca, it's on to the projects! A real advantage of this book is that the cowls are photographed in two ways in practically every instance. The first photo will depict the model holding the cowl, completely knit in her hands, so you can see a view of it straight on. The second photo is a larger, brilliant close up of the same model wearing the cowl. It is easy to picture yourself all cosied up and looking equally as fashionable, using these photos and your imagination. One hardly knows where to begin when choosing from these cowls. Each one has flair and personality. You may like the look of "Leaning Tower" a tall, diagonally ridged cowl knitted of vanilla colored baby alpaca/ merino wool, designed by Cheri Esper. This is a second level project and looks snug, warm, and perfect for a winter day. Perhaps you want something more dramatic which you might like wearing indoors and out. The cowl shown captured by a brooch, called "Entrelac Blocks", designed by Rosemary Drysdale, could be just your style. It is a ridge stitch cowl with a woven look. Meant for third level knitters, the yarns used are Cascade's merino wool/ baby alpaca in plum and anemone. What a sophisticated look!Second level knitters will fall in love with the cape-like mood of "Bold Shoulders", complete with a turtleneck, and a decorative bobble design which is really pretty in dusty teal. Designed by Deborah Helmke, this uses Highland Duo yarn in baby alpaca/merino wool. This is such a dreamy project!Perhaps you would like a cowl to knock their socks off. Try the "Curled Up in Cables" cowl, designed for third level knitters by Ashley Rao. What a statement this cowl makes, in Cascade Yarns Cloud in Pumpkin, a mix of merino wool and baby alpaca. The pattern alternates cables with dropped stitches. The cowl is superlarge and very lush looking. I love picturing myself in this one, cuddled up in all its snuggly warmth. You will too!As a gift, 60 Quick Cowls, Luxurious Projects to Knit in Cloud and Duo Yarns from Cascade Yarns, might be the inspiration for the crafter in your family to really take off and soar. This book, paired with a gift certificate to enable her to cover purchasing yarns and needles, would set anyone to dreaming over the holidays or on her birthday, picturing what she will choose to make first! This is a lovely, fun and creative book!

By Anne Another wonderful addition to the 60 Quick Knit series from Cascade Yarns featuring beautiful cowls created by incredibly talented designers. The range of projects are appropriate for knitters of all levels and just as the title implies these designs are all weekend projects that knit up quickly for instant gratification. This would be a great addition to any knitter's library!!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Cowl Pattern Library for Life By jaaase421 I've been wanting to make a cowl for a while now, and I think this is going to help me with one--or two--or twenty! There are some great knits in here in just about any style anyone could ever want. The nice thing about this book is that you can pick it up and have plenty of cowl ideas for yourself or anyone else who may want one in the future. It's easy enough to tailor each pattern by adjusting colors, length, depth, and gauge (via needle size and yarn weight) to really make each cowl your own. Or you can just follow the patterns as is because there really are a lot of great patterns.

A Comprehensive Course in Analysis by Poincare Prize winner Barry Simon is a five-volume set that can serve as a graduate-level analysis textbook with a lot of additional bonus information, including hundreds of problems and numerous notes that extend the text and provide important historical background. Depth and breadth of exposition make this set a valuable reference source for almost all areas of classical analysis. Part 1 is devoted to real analysis. From one point of view, it presents the infinitesimal calculus of the twentieth century with the ultimate integral calculus (measure theory) and the ultimate differential calculus (distribution theory). From another, it shows the triumph of abstract spaces: topological spaces, Banach and Hilbert spaces, measure spaces, Riesz spaces, Polish spaces, locally convex spaces, Frechet spaces, Schwartz space, and $L^p$ spaces. Finally it is the study of big techniques, including the Fourier series and transform, dual spaces, the Baire category, fixed point theorems, probability ideas, and Hausdorff dimension. Applications include the constructions of nowhere differentiable functions, Brownian motion, space-filling curves, solutions of the moment problem, Haar measure, and equilibrium measures in potential theory.

11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Minor Notes By Christopher Grant Obviously, this and the other 4 volumes in the series are fated to become classic texts for higher-level analysis. Some few of you may be curious about the rate of errata for 3000+ pages of newly-printed math. Here's what I've found after finishing the first chapter:1) In the Preface, Niels Bohr is called "Neils".2) The definition of a well-ordered set on Page 10 neglects to mention that it is only *nonempty* subsets that require a smallest element.3) We are told specifically that Z_+ and C_+ exclude 0, but we don't seem to be told about R_+. If it also excludes 0, then the statement on Pages 10 and 11 that every (nonempty?) subset of R_+ has an infimum would seem to fail.4) On Page 16, Aleph_{n+1} is mischaracterized as being equal to 2^{Aleph_n} (as if the GCH were assumed true).5) In formula (1.7.3) on Page 18, x_ell should be y_ell.6) In the proof of Proposition 1.7.2 on Page 20, X and W are mixed up with x and w.7) In the second paragraph of the proof of Proposition 1.7.7 on Page 23, projection operators seem to lose their subscripts.8) In the sketch of the proof of Theorem 1.8.4 on Page 32, "sup" should be "supp".9) "Bounded sequence on increasing reals" (p. 16), "is group homomorphism" (p. 18), and "finite linear combination are dense" (p. 18) were probably not meant to read exactly that way. Some few of you might also wonder about the physical construction of the books in the series. They are similar to recent books in the GSM series: non-glossy, pure-white paper with sewn bindings.

Recognizing trouble in the land, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood against the darkness. “Only when it’s dark enough can you see the stars,” King said.

An assassin cut short King’s life before his dream of equality could be fully realized, but that didn’t stop others from picking up the torch. Among them is motivational speaker Colonel Gregg Riley. A skilled and in-demand public speaker, he provides some of the most inspiring messages for today's issues.

Riley picks up where King left off in this book of speeches, Steps to the Promised Land. He’s seen the challenges that hinder people from reaching their full potential. He’s determined to help lead us on our journey “out of the wilderness and into the promised land.”

A sought-after actor who reenacts Dr. King’s most famous speeches with amazing authenticity and feeling, Colonel Riley puts the same concern and enthusiasm in his own speeches on subjects such as police profiling, nonviolent protests, and the value of veterans. He is right on the mark with his new approaches to education, the power of choice, and fighting against inequality.

Our nation continues to grapple with the darkness. Steps to the Promised Land helps us see the light.

The speeches that were shared in the book were very enlightening and uplifting. I have a habit of marking keynotes on topics that I feel will be beneficial to me when I read a book of this magnitude, but since I bought the kindle version, my notepad and pen came in handy. I pray that GOD will continue to use you as a Stepping Stone to help us Step into the Promised Land. Aloha Nui Loa! Janet

The paintings we see today in museums, galleries, churches and temples are often much altered by the centuries. Pictures can split, rot, be eaten by woodworm, warp, blister, crack, cup, flake, darken, blanch, discolor, become too translucent and disappear under a centuries-old varnish; and they can also suffer from the efforts of their owners to rectify these situations: they might be transferred, relined, ironed, abraded or repainted.Anyone writing about a work of art needs to establish at the outset how much it has changed since it was fi rst made. This act of understanding is far from easy. We need to develop a knowledge of the physical and chemical processes which have brought paintings to their current state, in the hope that we can imagine their reversal. And we have to look as much as we can, at a wide variety of paintings, so we can learn to distinguish those in a worse or better state of preservation; we have to try to understand what it is about a picture that differentiates good and bad condition. Theories of art history have been built on works which are little more than repaint and decay, and the beginner needs to be warned about the many pitfalls dug by time for the unwary. A great deal has been written about conservation and restoration, but this is the first book to approach the issue from the viewer’s standpoint, and to discuss changes in appearance that affect our understanding and appreciation of works of art. This book is highly illustrated so as to make its points extremely clear. It should appeal to anyone with an interest in art.REVIEWS “A hugely welcome publication, which sets out the knowns and unknowns of the subject in a series of lucid chapters on losses, cracking, pigments, darkening and cleaning …. Taylor’s even-handedness is exemplary.” ―Apollo “In this eloquent study, the art historian Paul Taylor demonstrates that all artworks undergo countless metamorphoses.” ―The Guardian “Beautifully written…an essential reference work for art historians and amateurs.” ―The Times Literary Supplement“Thorough and readable” ―The Art Newspaper “Best Art Book 2015”“This engrossing paperback will teach you never to look at an Old Master painting in the same way again.”Evening Standard: 24 December 2015"This excellently clear publication … is accessibly written, well-illustrated and has a comprehensive bibliography. It does not talk down to its readers. For the conservation student it is an excellent introduction."Icon News (Journal of the Institution of Conservation) March 2016

A must for Fallout fans By Paulina The book itself is pretty big and you have played Fallout games before you get the idea how big and complicated the game can get. This great quality book is full of useful guides of perks, stategies, enemies - whatever you need! The mini posters are a cool collector's item, the quality is very good and look nice as they are made out of cardboard. If you are like me and get easily lost while exploring dungeons, this books has a free code to download interactive maps to your tablet or smartphone which is very useful. As a fan, this is a must.

The Book itself is neat, professional, and clean. Very nice pages, and have a crisp look. The lithographs are neat, and crisp looking as well. The map that is included is FANTASTIC. I really do enjoy it and spent about 30 minutes starring it down after the un-boxing.Getting to the content of the book, well ... its ... not the best. Comparing it to the great FO3 game guide or the TES5 guide, it just cant hold itself up to those. The book's info doesn't go deep enough into it's categories, what I mean by that is that it doesn't go over things clearly enough. Say if you are looking over a mission and want to know what kind of conflicts you'll come across (combat, dialogue, etc.) it doesn't say. Or if the mission had a hidden chest or safe that is obscured or hidden, the guide says nothing about these certain items/containers. So you could completely barge over a great gun, or good armor piece, or something like that. The reading is very light and is not very descriptive as well. The pages that are designated for missions and quests just tell you how to do the quest, rather that giving tips for combat, or how to avoid it all-together, as I stated before. A great example of a guide that does this is the fantastic GTA-5 guide, that went over mission branching, avoiding obstacles, certain short-cuts, weapon/collectible locations, etc. This guide simply doesn't, which is pretty frustrating, if you expected something like that (as I did). The book does (as i felt) deal with weapons, bios, and locations pretty well though. The book does have a pretty good array of tables, pictures, and columns, which helps add detail, and makes it a bit more immersive. So no, Ladies & Gentlemen, this guide is not the best Prima has done, but in makes up for its lack of description, and mission content in pleasing aesthetics, crisp looks, and good presentation.Dovahkin isin't gonna Fus Ro Dah over this, and the lone wanderer isint going to loose a limb over it. but there's still enough here to make a pleasing game guide.

In fact with how useful their Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition guide was and how incredibly handy it was to have their HUGE Skyrim Legendary Edition guide, I was expecting a bit more from Prima than this. This guide is big. You'd assume a really big guide would be jam packed with information, but it isn't. Not only does Prima's Fallout 4 guide require a LOT of navigation to get all the information you need out of it, but the information itself isn't in depth in any way.To begin, the guide looks pretty good. The cover (at least of the collector's edition) is very nice and the pages are perfectly glossy (even if a little thin). But the layout and design are usually pretty simple to follow. It doesn't quite thematically breathe Fallout the way the Fallout 3 guide did, but upon first flipping through it you'd be forgiven for thinking that it was a really in-depth guide. After all, it's thick, every page is filled with screenshots, tables and what looks to be information. But... what does that information say? How does it guide the player? This is where the guide becomes problematic. The guide jumps right in, attempting to help you understand the game. It'll tell you about the basic things that the game itself will tell you. For those hoping to get more information on the various systems and how they work the guide doesn't go far. It doesn't necessarily have to, but it also doesn't spend a lot of time here. Once we get to the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. perks, though the guide begins to show the flaw that's going to keep players from truly mastering Fallout 4. Everything concerning your attributes and perks are things the game itself already tells you. There are no suggestions as to how to utilize or suggestions for players who wish to play a specific way. So much of what's here is ripped directly from the game itself. There's no real strategy or suggestions of how to utilize the perks to your advantage.Going beyond that the guide mostly talks about other basics. It'll tell you things such as how combat works (a very basic rundown) before going on to detail the enemies you'll run into. There are only a couple of paragraphs. No strategies on how to fight these enemies, or suggestions but I suppose that I can deal with. We then go into things like your inventory where there are lots of tables. I don't have too many qualms here except for one: Your weapons. The guide only tells you the most basic of basic things about the weapons. Every now and then there are some tips, but the guide spends far more time telling you ABOUT the weapons rather than giving tips on how to USE the weapons or how best to customize the weapons. The guide talks briefly about mods... but once again it spends a lot of time telling you ABOUT them and not how to utilize them.Even if you manage to get through all that, the walkthrough itself is going to be terribly problematic. Before the walkthrough there is a list of all the quest, but I found this to be quite useless in comparison. For instance, it's great that it tells me the quest type, but... I'd like to know where it is. It tells you what page to find the quest on but say you want to do a quest in a specific location... it won't tell you. It just won't tell you where it is in the game.I understand that Fallout 4 doesn't exactly present a great main story. The joy of Fallout 4 is roaming the wasteland and finding and discovering the individual quests, not necessarily your own. The world is pretty cool. Apparently Prima thought similarly. The guide only takes twenty pages or so to cover the main quest. This is because each quest is only given a handful of paragraphs dedicated to it. Sometimes those paragraphs are used to tell you absolutely nothing. Near the beginning of the game when going through Sanctuary, for instance, the guide tells me to explore, but at no point helps point me in the direction of potentially useful items or prepares me for some the hazards I might face. At times the guide MIGHT mention enemies you might encounter and at other times it doesn't say anything. The hazards is a far worse, though. Certainly it's important to explore without really knowing what's coming. But if I'm going to spend a good deal of money on a strategy guide (whether for a collector's item or not) then it's not unfair to expect the guide to give me as much detail as it possibly can. At no point has this guide made me feel secure in what it is I'm doing. There's usually an enemy it doesn't mention. A hazard it doesn't talk about. It rarely points items out in the walkthrough. There are more quests the guide covers beyond the main stuff, but it's mostly the same. A lot of paragraphs that usually describe the quest but don't guide you through it, while explaining to you what the game is already telling you. There are hardly any real details on what to do. Usually it's something basic like... "Explore this area." Each quest usually has a list of objectives and places to explore listed as well. This is great, but going beyond this the guide doesn't feel it needs to tell you HOW to obtain those objectives or what's worth exploring. The guide will usually point you to somewhere in the middle to look for a map. We'll come back to this as well. The point is that the walkthrough and quest guide don't feel complete. They are peppered with good looking screenshots, but again, it's that you don't get enough details about these quests. And sometimes inbetween main quest missions it doesn't tell you what to do inbetween. Things you need to be doing inbetween quests the guide isn't always telling you about. Going from one main quest to another, for example, might actually require you to go through other areas. But since it's not a "quest" the guide just simply opts not to mention anything about it. It's SOMEWHERE in the walkthrough, but because it's not a "main" quest it's not going to be found in that section. It might show up in one of the other quest sections, but you're going to have to basically flip through the guide to find it.The walkthrough also has lots of helpful tips from Vault Boy... but often it's just repeating a lot of things the game itself is actually telling you. They're not so much helpful as they are redundant. And the entire walkthrough is sometimes written in this manner. The game will tell you something and you'll often read the walkthrough to find it describing what an NPC just told you and not necessarily how to go about it. There's so much fluff in the guide at times that it was usually better to go online to figure out what I was looking for. To spend this much money on a guide to ultimately need to go online for information is pretty bad. In this day and age, a strategy guide is a supplement and not a necessity. Often they are collector's items. That isn't a good reason for a poorly constructed walkthrough, however. The Fallout 4 guide either holds back on a lot of detail or it just simply gives you the most basic of basic information. It's the difference between someone backseat gaming and someone playing the game with you. After the walkthrough and quest guide we come to the workshop chapter. As with the rest of the guide it tells you a lot ABOUT the workshops but isn't going to help you utilize them. At times the Fallout 4 guide feels less like a strategy guide and more like a bloated instruction manual. After the workshops we then come to the maps. The maps section is the biggest section of the guide by far. Taking up HALF the guide itself. Sure enough most of these maps are good. It shows you a huge map before going region by region. In each region it'll then go through all the primary locations where it actually shows you the area itself. The guide is less interested in showing you all the wilderness in between these primary locations. Each section in the walkthrough usually will send you to the map if you want a good idea of what the location looks like. While some of those items are shown in the walkthrough, they're definitely shown on the maps. You get an optimal route to get through an area and then they point out a few items. There are even small snippets of information here that even tell you some things you might want to do in these areas. I'm not sure why those things weren't included in the walkthrough. Sometimes it's even more precise in fewer words. At times it made more sense to just flip to this section of the guide than it was to use the actual walkthrough. At first it seemed odd that the maps weren't in the walkthrough itself, but after utilzing the guide for a bit, I'm glad they weren't. The walkthrough would be far more hazardous to use. It made using the walkthrough a lot easier. The maps section also shows all the secondary locations. There aren't maps for these, but they're usually places on the over world map with a small bit to tell you about it. It's actually not a bad section. The only major nitpick here is that the legend only appears on the first page or so of the section. There are a lot of symbols to memorize. You might have to flip back to it from time to time. The biggest problem with the guide isn't necessarily it's lackluster walkthrough. The bigger problem is definitely navigating the guide itself. Useful techniques, that even Prima used in the past, aren't used here. Most guides have a decent "tab" system. This is where you can get an idea where you should flip by looking at the tabs usually in the margin of the page. Each section has a tab at a different spot. A tab system helps players get an idea of what section starts where and how large it is. When flipping through you'll know if you've gone too far because the tabs have changed. I'm not sure why Prima didn't use a good tab system. Especially when they've used one in previous guides. Worse than a tab system, however, is the lack of an index. This guide is huge. Being able to pinpoint a quest (in more than just a list) would've been nice. There were times when I wanted to know WHERE a quest was and I had to flip through the guide endlessly to find it. An index would've easily solved these issues. Not just that, but for those who purchased the collector's edition guide... ribbon bookmarks would've been a nice addition. It would've helped with the page flipping.Strategy guides are not really a necessity anymore. Guides are often supplements or collector's items now. Sometimes strategy guides can enhance the experience of the game. Prima's Fallout 4 guide doesn't really do anything. It doesn't supplement the game or enhance the experience. The extras included with the collector's edition guide are hardly enough to make up for how much information the guide just doesn't have. Prima's Fallout 3 guide felt complete. It was huge, but justifiably huge. Here the guide feels incomplete. Were it not for the maps it'd likely just be an overblown instruction manual. A walkthrough needs to do more than tell me what the game is telling me. It needs to actually guide. It needs to actually dive. For collector's the guide will certainly looks nice on a shelf. It's pretty and has some decent maps. But the problems with the walkthrough and the absurd amount of page flipping you'll need to do to find all the information you want don't make the guide a good companion.

Singh (Berkeley, California)As an admirer of Woody Allen’s short stories and films, I have read the previous three biographies and several books about him, including the most recent, Tom Shone’s “Woody Allen: A Retrospective."David Evanier’s WOODY: THE BIOGRAPHY is the book I’d recommend to those who want to read just one book about Woody. There are more than thirty published. Evanier's prose style is highly engaging. While making notes to prepare writing the review in a café near the UC Berkeley campus, I was asked by an acquaintance why I was reading it after what he did to Mia Farrow and Soon-Yi. She said this with a sustained frown. I put aside the notes and decided to read to her a section from Evanier’s book (pages 317-18):“In 2014 Robert Weide, who directed a superb documentary on Allen in 2011, WOODY ALLEN: A DOCUMENTARY, listed the ten most common misconceptions about Allen and Soon-Yi in the ‘Daily Beast,’ followed by his responses: (The capitalization of Weide's responses is my doing because Amazon doesn't upload italics.)‘1. Soon-Yi was Woody’s daughter.FALSE.‘ 2. Soon-Yi was Woody’s stepdaughter.FALSE.‘3. Soon-Yi was Woody and Mia’s adopted daughter.FALSE. SOON-Yi WAS THE ADOPTED DAUGHTER OF MIA FARROW AND ANDRE PREVIN. HER FULL NAME WAS SOON-YI FARROW PREVIN.‘4. Woody and Mia were married.FALSE.‘5. Woody and Mia lived together. FALSE….IN FACT, WOODY NEVER ONCE STAYED OVERNIGHT AT MIA’S APARTMENT IN 12 YEARS.‘6. Woody and Mia had a common-law marriage.FALSE. NEW YORK STATE DOES NOT RECOGNIZE COMMON-LAW MARRIAGE.‘7. Soon-Yi viewed Woody as a father figure.FALSE. SOON-YI SAW WOODY AS HER MOTHER’S BOYFRIEND. HER FATHER WAS HER ADOPTIVE FATHER, ANDRE PREVIN.‘8. Soon-Yi was underage when she and Woody started having relations.FALSE. …‘9. Soon-Yi was borderline retarded.FALSE. HA! SHE'S SMART AS A WHIP, HAS A DEGREE FROM COLUMBIA UNIVESITY…‘10. Woody was grooming Soon-Yi from an early age to be his child bride.FALSE. ACCORDING TO COURT DOCUMENTS AND MIA’S OWN MEMOIR, UNTIL 1990 (WHEN SOON-YI WAS 18 OR 20, WOODY HAD “LITTLE TO DO WITH ANY OF THE PREVIN’S CHILDREN,” SO MIA ENCOURAGED HIM TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH HER. WOODY STARTED TAKING HER TO BASKETBALL GAMES, AND THE REST IS TABLOID HISTORY. SO HE HARDLY "HAD HIS EYE ON HER FROM THE TIME SHE WAS A CHILD." 'My questioner relaxed her frown and wanted to borrow the book. A few moments later, frowning again, she raised the Dylan Farrow molestation question. I read to her David Evanier's book (page 302):"After six months of investigation, which included medical examinations, Yale-New Haven Hospital issued its report on March 17, 1993, 'Child Sexual Abuse Clinic Evaluation of Dylan Farrow'. It was compiled by Dr. John Leventhal, a pediatrician and Director of the hospital's Child Sexual Abuse Clinic, and two clinical social workers trained to detect sexual abuse. Leventhal had interviewed Dylan nine times and had met with Allen and Farrow....The report completely exonerated Allen of all charges and recommended that Woody and Dylan be united quickly. Referring to Farrow's 'very disturbed' relationship with Dylan and Satchel, it said it was 'absolutely critical' for Mia to undertake 'intensive psychotherapy' to address these relationships." Yes, next week I'll lend her Weide's DVD and Evanier's five-star book. -- c. j. singh

A simple Youtube search or a glimpse at the documentary made a few year ago will show it was a Kangaroo. On page 268. It stats: "Chaplin said that he loved Allen and particularly admired Broadway Danny Rose." Wow! A man who died in 1977 liked a movie that came out in 1984. I looked in the back of the book thinking that maybe he was referring to another person by the name of Chaplin but, no it said Chaplin, Charles. There is also a error on page 276. about one of the caricatures in "Crimes and Misdemeanors" who commits suicide by "hurled himself down a flight of stairs to his death and left no suicide note."On page 279: "He disliked the kind of joking suicide note, something like'I went out the window.' Which is the line quoted in the movie. This event happens towards the end of the movie and is memorable because of it's quirkiness. There are a few more that I spotted, but I feel I got my point acrossed. I don't expect a book like this to be error free when it comes to minor details, but I do feel that the errors made in this book were just lazy. Extra: as I was looking in the back of this book I happened to glance at the details of "Sweet and Lowdown" For cast member is says: "Sean Penn, Uma Thurman." What!! No mention of Samantha Morton who had a bigger part in the movie then Uma. Why no mention? Like I said lazy!

By Steves A remarkable portrait of a remarkable man, carefully researched and filled with fascinating anecdotes from people who knew and worked with Allen from early childhood on. The author does an excellent job of clearing up frequent misconceptions and dispelling misinformation with solid facts, not speculation or gossip. Anyone remotely interested in this unique comedian, writer and filmmaker needs to get this book (and read it, of course).

I happened to catch it on a free promotion, but I think it would be fairly priced at 0.99.The book provides nine different templates for nonfiction books. The templates are modeled after books by well-known authors, so they have some credibility. The author does a reasonable job of explaining the templates, but they could be improved with a little more depth in the examples. There are more than a few grammatical errors, because the authors first language is not English. But nothing that seriously affects the readability of this book. The authors cautions that these templates are for beginners, and I agree. But I would still recommend the book to any novice or intermediate author who would like a quick summary of some different templates for nonfiction books.

But if you have already have both of Brian Smith's Sony books, you should also consider buying this new guide by Brian Matsumoto and Carol Roullard. It's 356 pages of technical details, illustrations, tips and advice that will help most experienced Canon/Nikon shooters make best use of the A7II.

Gotchy Long time coming...and worth the wait. While I had read reviews of other books written by Mr. Matsumoto, this is the first of his books that I have purchased and read. As the owner of a Sony A7ii, and a serious amateur photographer, I was well versed in the camera's use.....but this book has allowed me to go to a new level. The book includes the technical information that one would expect, but along with personal observations, recommendations, and useful examples, the writing is clean, crisp, and understandable (for the experienced and inexperienced photographer). The only downside of the book is that it has already cost me some money.....in that I took a couple of Brian's suggestions to heart and added to my inventory of "old" and relatively "inexpensive" lenses as well as certain filters and a current Sony lens. A big thumbs up on this end.

Excellent guide By Steve This book presents to someone like me who enjoys taking photographs, but doesn't know much about how to manually work a camera, a well written, plainly spoken, and easily understood set of carefully thought out instructions. I need the help from someone who is thoughtful enough to come down to my amateur level and bring me slowly up the ladder of understanding. This is an excellent guide for someone who needs to be intellegently, yet gently taught how to use the camera for best effect. I appreciate this book.

Satirical wit, unapologetic observation, and relentless tough love — this book is exactly what it claims to be: commentary, commas, and cursing. With topics ranging from fake gluten allergies, to the practice of safe sex, and dogs being, well, way better than cats, it's ideal for awkward first dates, late nights, and dinners with friends. (Oh, and did we mention it contains a ton of F-words?)

It's about the myriad of ways in which people suck, and except for preferring dogs to cats By Flea If you follow The Captain on social media, you shouldn't even question whether or not to buy this book. If you've no idea who The Captain is, you may wonder why you should buy a book compiled entirely of tweets and Instagram posts?Let me ask you, do you have 53,000 followers? I didn't think so.Have you tweeted 600+ original thoughts? I didn't think so.In a time when almost anyone can publish almost anything, those of us who read should support those of us who write, and especially those who write well. The succinct ideas joined with the mastery of Standard English and the use of there, their, and they're is pure word porn. What is the book about? It's about the myriad of ways in which people suck, and except for preferring dogs to cats, The Captain is pretty much spot on.

Social commentary + F Bombs FTW By ALS Somewhere in this meme-saturated online world lives 140 characters full of smart, jaded, sarcastic, Ernest Hemingway-esque masculinity; a world in which each quote digs deep into The Captain's reality: clueless sheeple-girls named Ashley wearing all black and carrying huge purses; legit dating advice from a man who makes wearing a scowl and a nautical cap not just acceptable but compelling; gleaning life goals from the hardened visage of garden gnomes; and enough cringe worthy yet accurate insights to leave everyone from joggers, to couples, to the PC-police, to Marilyn Monroe die-hards all deeply offended. Or turned on. Or both. That world is here, now, in book form. The Captain does not disappoint with Feel Free to Quote Me. If this book doesn't make you smile from recognition (or regret) then you really ought to consider logging off Facebook and checking out your local dive bar and/or bookstore. Dope book, Captain.
