By fotostuf After a long hiatus (as film died, so had my passion for photography), I have returned to the land of light drawing. In my search for something I could understand, I found the XT-1 and its lenses with f-stop rings and bodies with mechanical shutters... something important to an old grognard as myself. I decided to go back to my original passion, and found that digital held its own secrets, its own photographic language, and this piqued my interest. This book not only covers the basic concepts one should learn to excel in photography, but also, and in plain clear speech, covers those digital nuances that will help those who want to excel in the digital realm. A great read... so glad I bought the book. Highly recommended.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Great Tips, but hard to find them - Get your highlighter ready By John D. Biggs This is a good book for XT-1 users. However as expert tips I have to weed through a bunch of general photography knowledge material just to find camera specifics. And its not like you can just skip parts that seem familiar as all the gems are buried. This makes this book hard to use on a practical level and will require several reads and camera time. For example, there is an entire section on using JPG+RAW presenting arguments for the case. Most of this applies to any photography, but buried in there is specifically what the camera does better for internal JPG than post processing allows.Over all, the gems of Fuji specific data are worth the purchase, just expect that you would have to work for them. Save your self a lot of time on the second read, highlight the good stuff as you go. The Author would help us all if there were a couple of pages in an appendix which just pointed out the gems and cross referenced some page numbers for more info.

True Enough: A Surgeon's Solution for Life, Health, Medicine, and Marine Navigation, by Dr Alan Muskett MD

About the Author Dr. Alan Muskett is a native of Missoula, Montana, and holds an English degree from Montana State University, which is widely considered to be the nation’s leading institution for thoracic and plastic surgeon writers. He graduated from the University of Washington Medical School, and completed a general surgery residency at the University of Utah. He then served a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, achieving a PTSD degree there. In 1991 he returned to Montana, practicing cardiothoracic and vascular surgery for the next 12 years, accumulating some good book material along the way. In 2003, at the age of 46, he suffered a typical male midlife crisis, and moved to Jackson, Mississippi, to do a plastic surgery residency. In 2005 he returned to Billings MT and has been in practice in plastic and reconstructive surgery since. This collection of articles is the second for Dr. Muskett, his first book being the international runaway bestseller Mostly True. (A few copies were sold in Canada.) His wife Pamela is his first reader always, and come to think of it, his first wife as well, which is both editorially and financially convenient. His children Sally, Cathy, and Luke are frequent targets for gratuitous humor, but due to the exigencies of educational financing, are tolerant. Dr. Muskett’s partners at Billings Plastic Surgery, Drs. Steve Grosso and Jarred McDaniel, are also tolerant, but that has more to do with the necessity for call coverage.

Writers of the modern essay can trace their chosen genre all the way back to Michel de Montaigne (1533–92). But save for the recent notable best seller How to Live: A Life of Montaigne by Sarah Bakewell, Montaigne is largely ignored. After Montaigne―a collection of twenty-four new personal essays intended as tribute―aims to correct this collective lapse of memory and introduce modern readers and writers to their stylistic forebear. Though it’s been over four hundred years since he began writing his essays, Montaigne’s writing is still fresh, and his use of the form as a means of self-exploration in the world around him reads as innovative―even by modern standards. He is, simply put, the writer to whom all essayists are indebted. Each contributor has chosen one of Montaigne’s 107 essays and has written his/her own essay of the same title and on the same theme, using a quote from Montaigne’s essay as an epigraph. The overall effect is akin to a covers album, with each writer offering his or her own interpretation and stylistic verve to Montaigne’s themes in ways that both reinforce and challenge the French writer’s prose, ideas, and forms. Featuring a who’s who of contemporary essayists, After Montaigne offers astartling engagement with Montaigne and the essay form while also pointing the way to the genre’s potential new directions.

Review Imagine the dinner party: not just Montaigne but many Montaignes, resurrected in these brilliant essays by twenty-eight of today’s most inventive writers. The table is crowded, enlivened by the paradoxical warmth of Montaigne’s detachment and by the parry and thrust of ideas, often tantamount to a kind of quiet eros. It’s a dinner full of random appetites, the kind of party we leave knowing ourselves a little less, which might mean a little better. What a feast this collection is. It satisfies a hunger―intellect meeting empathy―that enlarges us. (Barbara Hurd author of Listening to the Savage: River Notes and Half-Heard Melodies)A fascinating collection of essays that carries forward the omnidirectional momentum of the master. After Montaigne gives us grand examples of the essay as it lives today. (Ian Frazier author of Great Plains)Though Montaigne wrote more than 400 years ago, he feels ageless to these writers, who celebrate his 'drily mellifluous voice,' discursive style, and relentless curiosity. With flair, wit, and imagination, these writers embrace and often challenge their mentor, with results that will inspire readers to also seek out the originals. (Publishers Weekly)The collection is accessible and invites readers to dip in anywhere, to read all or only a few. Reading these "covers" alongside Montaigne's originals would make an engaging activity for aspiring essayists or composition students. (P.J. Kurtz Choice)

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Homage and More By hh I feared this volume might prove to be un tout petit precious as notable essayists groovily riffed on the timeless pieces of MM (some of which are great, many of which are good but not spectacular despite the way people genuflect when the name is mentioned). But no. I was happily surprised to find that most of the entries were thoughtful with great meaning for modern readers. And oddly original (except where writers felt obligated to do the "ramble," which for the most part was too superficial an idea of how to pay homage to MM as well as somewhat annoying as line after line cascaded down the page naked of punctuation or with punctuation tossed in randomly like peppercorns in a beet salad then partially retrieved as the chef realized the fallacy of putting them in that kind of salad but of course some were left and those stand out,, precisely because they are left and we know the dog won't eat them so what to do with leftovers). Hence, if you can get beyond that misstep, there is much here worth one's time. Each entry begins with a quote that serves as an appetizer more than a referent. Following the essay is a short blurb in which the writer explains what was intended or how the piece took shape (think bonus feature on a DVD). Read the work with an open mind. If you simply want MM go re-read MM. If you want short, beefy bumps that leave you rubbing the spot then this collection is about as good as you are likely to get. In many ways it is actually better than just re-reading MM because the ensemble presents very differently from piece to piece, one can never tell what charming strangeness will be lobbed out from the pages. These modern pieces also do something that MM, Seneca or many other extinct palers can't quite achieve today: they make you pause between pages to ponder not just the ideas against self, but also timely applications in myriad ways tangible and poignant. Frankly, I found the best way to appreciate the collection was to read it a bit here, a bit there and during downtime throw in liberal soakings in audible.com's version of MM's originals. Like Chinese eye exercises, one focuses at a raised digit just past the nose then down several centuries and back. At times dizzying; sometimes you just notice some dirt under your thumbnail.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. strong collection--don't be put off even if you haven't read Montaigne By B. Capossere Read about the essay form for more than five or six minutes, and you’re almost bound to come across a reference to Montaigne. Write essays, and it’s almost incumbent upon you to at some point confront Montaigne, who began the whole thing so long ago. Which makes it surprising it’s taken so long for an anthology that asks contemporary essayists to do just that in blunt, precise fashion, as the editors Patrick Madden and Chris Lazar relate in their introduction, comparing the essays to cover songs: “We asked more than two dozen . . . essayists to give us their take on a Montaignean subject . . . [in an] attempt to reenvision Montaigne’s topics through a contemporary sensibility.” As an added bonus, the editors also asked the authors to include a brief coda “explaining the process through which the essayist translated, transfigured, reimagined, or rethought some of the essential ideas, figures, and motifs in Montaigne’s original” (and I’d be lying if I didn’t say I preferred a few codas to the actual essays themselves). Like most collections, After Montaigne has its hits and misses, but the former easily outnumber the latter, and the scales are also tilted by the fact that the excellent essays make the worst ones mostly forgettable.Similar to Montaigne’s originals, the essays range widely in subject and tone, range perhaps even more widely in style and structure, and finally also vary in their attitude toward their source material—some writing in concert with Montaigne, some against (some, as they tell us in the coda, began one way but ended the other), some yanking him forward in time, others content to let him remain in the past. This variety is a clear strength of the collection, as one is almost certain to find something (more than a few somethings more likely) that appeals.I confess the collection started a bit rough for me, but hit its stride a few essays in with Lia Purpura’s standout piece “Of Prayers,” concerning the murder on one of her students by the student’s father, funneling the incident through a sharp focus on the quilt found at the crime scene: “The quilt bore the weight of the act, of the bodies; and since such fabric isn’t given to absorbing, it must have made channels, and there the blood pooled. There were runnels. And chambers.” The murder is linked as well to the suicide of one of Purpura’s close friends, an act Purpura imagines again and again, as “a new piece of that scene fills in, suggests itself, makes a bid for inclusion.” I loved the movement within this piece, the vividness of its scenes and details, the fully introspective voice, and startlement of language. This was easily my favorite piece, but far from the only strong one. My other favorites were:Bret Lott’s “Of Giving the Lie.” I liked the way the essay was structure, along with its focus on story, use of third person, and strong sense of narrative and place.Steven Church’s “Of Idleness” makes use of photos, historical references, and news stories as he examines his own relationship to the idea of idleness and in particular the form it takes via the teenagers that loiter in stores and public areas, but especially just across the street from his home. Throughout, one has the sense that Church is unsure himself of what he’ll learn about his attitudes, and the end scene is pitch perfect.Barry Borich’s “Of Wearing My Red Dress” takes what could have been a breezy piece focusing on clothes and shifts quickly into a substantive, at times disturbing examination of how her social interactions and dress (the titular one in particular) intertwined.Judith Oriz Cofer’s “Of Books and Huecos” is a poignant, moving work that begins with the author disposing of her recently deceased mother’s goods, several of which becomes vehicles for her to come to understand her immigrant mother’s two-world existence, her longing for home, and the way the author herself has “no dream of home that can compare to hers.”In a somewhat different vein from the other essays, Chris Arthur’s “Of Solitude” is a nice overview both of Montaigne and his work and of the essay in general, bringing in his own experiences but in a less intimate fashion than many of the other writers.Marcia Aldrich has a painful (literally and otherwise) epiphany while on a horseback ride in Mexico, made perhaps even more agonizingly effective by the reader knowing just where this piece is likely to go.These half-dozen or so stood out particularly for me, but most others succeeded at least partially. Some I wholly enjoyed but felt they seemed not quite complete, some on the other hand went longer than I needed them to, but still had long passages that were moving or thought-provoking, and one or two didn’t compel so much in their content but were presented in an engaging voice. There were only a handful I didn’t much care for at all, and as mentioned above, these few were more than balanced by the stronger ones, making this an easy collection to recommend, whether one has read Montaigne or not.

If I asked you right now could you define what your ideal job is on a piece of paper? Are you where you visualized you would be when you graduated college? Or have you hit a period of stagnant career growth and a perceived lack of opportunity? Unfortunately, many skilled people today settle for less than they deserve. They have accepted the status quo of being underemployed — working in jobs that don’t excite them and getting paid less than what they are worth. The goal for every employee should be to find a job that makes you excited to wake up every day and a job where you are constantly engaged in your work! If you haven’t achieved that then ask yourself: Why not use a proven approach and move towards the lifestyle you want and deserve? My innovative and actionable book will provide you with a methodical, practical, and tested strategy to identify your next career move and make it a reality. 80% of job openings are never advertised and these are often the best opportunities. With this book you will learn techniques to reach hiring managers at the most desirable companies and start laying the groundwork to find job leads — before they are posted. In addition, I will teach you the latest job search strategies using tools like LinkedIn to create your own opportunity instead of waiting for opportunity to come to you. In this How To guide, I will give you: * Tools to market yourself like a business and stand out from the competition. * Networking like an expert, even if you don’t already have a strong professional network. * Strategies to get raises and promotions that you can leverage for the rest of your life. The Career Upgrade Roadmap: 90 Days to a Better Job and a Better Life, by Olivia Gamber

About the Author Olivia became a mad scientist in the career development world. She is constantly trying to reverse engineer success and achievement in business. Olivia started to learn the game being played around her and the unwritten rules of Corporate America. It was then that she realized being good at your job wasn't enough in today's highly competitive environment; you also have to build relationships, be able to navigate complex corporate hierarchies, and develop many other key skills. At a relatively young age, she found herself moving up the corporate ladder to become the head of talent and organizational development at a large, publicly traded company. She has overseen teams of recruiters and understands that finding work you love isn't just about being a fit for the job, but a fit for the work group and company culture also are necessary to thrive in an organization. Olivia has made it her mission to help people explore innovative ways to advance their careers. She created Occupational Olivia because she saw a need for quality career advice to help others navigate the changing world of work and stay relevant. Olivia gets her energy from working with people who are motivated to make a change, underemployed, or lost, and helping them to get the clarity they need to advance their careers forward. She loves coaching people as they navigate complex career decisions and seeing the impact she makes when people nail their interviews, negotiate huge pay increases, and change their lives by landing jobs they are proud of. Olivia currently lives in Scottsdale, Arizona with her husband and Yorkie Poo puppy.

Cragle The amount of advice available about finding your career is as abundant as parenting advice, medical advice and fitness advice. A simple Google search shows 453,000,000 results that include untold amounts of links to "do your passion", "work at home", and "get your subscription here"! The problem is that most of the advice is out-dated and worthless, except for the job services selling their wares. In this book Olivia Gamber approaches your career from outside the mold of "go to school, send out resumes, go to interviews, wait to be hired". The old approach of being good at your job is crushed in this sentence near the start of the book. "Unfortunately, just being good at your job isn’t enough in today’s highly competitive environment; you also have to build relationships, be able to navigate complex corporate matrices, and develop many other key skills."Further, whether you're searching for your first job or you're a grizzled veteran seeking a change, here are sentences that really popped out at me early in the book. "Seventy-five percent of American workers are not engaged in their jobs. This is mainly because many people are passive when it comes to managing their careers. They think if they work hard, then everything will eventually work out for them. The truth is, success is not simply about working hard—it’s about working on the right things."In this book Olivia changes the way you look at job searches and coaches you to attack it like you're marketing a product, which you are. You're marketing the product of YOU!!! I won't giveaway the content, but you'll relook at your skills, how you should highlight them, laser-focused job & company searches, networking as the real secret to getting a job and more!I've been hired and fired, laid-off, and sought jobs for the past 35+ years and this is one of the most succinct books on not only finding a job, but also a place that you can thrive in. Get this book now and change your way of thinking and acting regarding your job and future opportunities!

Stop Wasting Your Time Submitting 10 Resumes Per Day - This Gives You A Better Way By Lisa Cummings I enjoyed how Olivia offers a different set of career advice. Frankly, I'm tired of hearing advice to follow your passion to the promised land because it's just not like that for people. They don't know how to find their passion. And even when they can find it, they may have 3 major passions. Or one that has a market rate of $10,000 per year. That old (yet still so common) advice just gets people stuck. That's the great thing about this book. It's different from the "follow your passion" bandwagon. She gives you a better approach for leading into your career transition with another focus.I also love how she gets candidates unstuck by focusing on their marketing rather than their credentials. And she teaches you to stop wasting your time blasting out oodles of resumes. And she flips the purpose of a cover letter around to the WHY YOU part of the equation. Lots of great advice in here.

By jennifer clift If you are serious about advancing in your career - and especially about finding the job that you know WITHOUT A DOUBT is going to be right for you on a personal and professional level - then the system that the author, Olivia Gamber, sets out here is what is going to get you there.Fast, not without effort, but with a focused, crafted plan that will have you shaking your head, saying 'But of course. Why doesn't everyone land jobs this way?'Ms Gamber has a vast amount of experience and has put in a vast amount of research to develop a working method for job hunting and especially job achieving.Starting by clearing mental blocks that might be stalling your progress, she quickly moves into the nuts and bolts of targeting job titles and companies, doing in depth, and in house, research into these, and from there connecting with people already within your chosen industry. From here it is a question of writing a resume and cover letter...but from the specific standpoint of marketing yourself, stating very clearly what you will be offering the company.Written in a friendly, but extremely professional style, this book should be on every college program and in every library and bookshop in the section on career planning. Excellent.

It has beautiful illustrations and very clear instructions on how to do the zentangle patterns. There are quite a few pages and plenty of ideas to keep you busy! The artist chose many patterns for this book that you can mix up and create so many unique designs from. Zentangle Art Therapy has been a number one bestseller in Germany on Amazon.de and thankfully it has been translated to English and sold in the US for us to enjoy! I highly recommend this book to add to your collection.

I still benefited by the discussion More examples than other larger by page books. Great examples I deconstructed to understand how they were drawn. The book was worth every penny and fun to read.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. this book is so far the best I have purchased on the Django subject By chen Without a doubt, this book is so far the best I have purchased on the Django subject. This book takes you to a journey from the Django novice to a Django intermediate level developer. You will be wrong if you think this book is just another how to write a blog application. Beside the same old blog application, you can find out how to integrate facebook or Twitter authentication into your site. There are not many books out there to teach you how to put Apache Solr or Celery to be used in the real life example. The only part which I do not like is the Paypal payment integration. Since I am not a big fan of Paypal, I do not find the section is useful to me. However, the author does a good job on explaining how to integrate paypal payment into your online shopping site.

Very straightforward and clear guide about Django By Jaime Fernández In my opinion this book puts everything together in a very simple way what you can do with Django through several examples. It covers in detail everything you may need to deploy a fully operational web site. Very straightforward and clear, mentioning every common problem you could find. The chapters about building a Pinterest clone application were especially useful. You may find yourself a little bit lost in the final chapters if you are not familiar with web development already. Anyway, an interesting book.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great book on Django By Jaakko T. Django By Example is composed of projects that introduce common problems encountered in web development. The book starts with a simple blog application but quickly picks up speed and suddenly you are building fully functional online shops and managing payments. The transition is however smooth and I'm confident that even inexperienced and novice Django developers are able to follow the book and its projects. The last chapter is about building a RESTful API, which is handy for building single-page applications. Maybe the chapter could have pushed the writer in right direction how to achieve this by using some JavaScript framework like AngluarJS. However, that might be already out of scope for this book. This more of a hands-on book than Two Scoops of Django, which in my mind caters a little bit different audience. However, Two Scoops could be a good read after reading this book.

This is simply an amazing review of fashion and of the history surrounding it By JLN This is simply an amazing review of fashion and of the history surrounding it. The graphics and photos are wonderfully placed and enhance the reading experience. At 460 pages, it's layout makes it very easy to pick an era and dive deep into the people, cultures and events that serve to inform the fashion of that time. By Andrew Actually, I don't hate this book but we are forced to use the star-ratings even when we wish to make a general comment about Amazon's product information. For this book and others involving direct quotations from scriptures, I believe most potential readers would appreciate know precisely which version of which scriptures the book contains. The same applies to 'The Illuminated Psalms" also by Black Dog & Leventhal - brilliant concept but more detail needed. I have been caught before and I now refuse to purchase a book featuring scriptural quotations unless I know whether I am getting a version I consider odd or antiquated if not heretical.

Quilter's Precut Companion: Handy Reference Guide + 25 Precut-Friendly BlocksFrom C&T Publishing

Review Are you still a bit confused on precuts? C&T Publishing has put together a nice 32 page booklet called “Quilter's Precut Companion”. This all-in-one guide to precuts is a spiral-bound, easy to take with you reference guide that covers everything you need to know about precuts. This little gem is filled with charts and information on everything precut…did you know there are at least 7 different names for 10”x10” squares? I liked the chart called Precuts and Quilt Size, if no other fabric is used, this chart gives you an idea of how many packs or strips of the most common precuts you will need to make the various size quilts. You will also find instructions for making Easy Half-Square Triangles and blocks using the half-square triangle units. In fact there are 25 traditional quilt blocks you can make from precut squares, strips, and triangles. (The Appliqué Society Newsletter, Jan/Feb 2016)

About the Author Missouri Star Quilt Co. is a grassroots business that started in 2008 in Hamilton, Missouri. The family-run company began with a brick-and-mortar shop and an online store. In just seven short years, it has revitalized the small town of Hamilton and introduced thousands of people to quilting.

By Susan D As a newbie quilter this book is fantastic.I am sure anyone who quilts will find this bookinvaluable. The spiral bound book provideswith a quick and easy guide to quilting.Using pre-cuts makes quilting so much easier. It's difficult when you start out to be ableto afford all the fabric you would like.Going into a shop you feel overwhelmedwith the amount of choice you have.Choosing pre-cuts means you can get afantastic array of fabrics that make brilliant quilts. The designers take the decisions for you andput together the fabrics that make amazing quilts.Once you have the fabric you want to useyou can use the book to help make all the decisions about your quilt. The book starts by giving you all the standardquilt sizes including ones with a drop & tuck. You then have a breakdown of the standardprecut sizes and names. This is all new to me and it's fantasticallyhelpful. It takes the language and makes it easy to follow. The guide also breaks down how manyprecuts you will need for each size of quilt. You then have diagrams and sizes for cuttingfat quarters into each of the sizes. From there it sets out how to cut layer cakes andcharm squares. Then it gives you wonderful tips onusing precuts. You then have a diagram that detailswhat yardage is required for borders.Bonding and backings are then broken downin various sizes.I just can't believe how much informationis packed in. It explains binding widthand shows example diagrams of different bindings.Bias strips, opening seams and offsetare explained. The back of the book breaks down triangles. It takes you step by step throughthe different designs you can make with them. The step by step instructions andsizing graphs make everything so simple. You can follow each step by step to makeamazing quilts. This book is fantastic and is a wonderfulinformation book for any quilter.I have been afraid of how to work withmy pre-cuts but this book helps make more sense.I would highly recommend this book.I'll be using it time and again. It's useful to any level of quilter.I received this book to review. However all opinions expressed are my own.No monies were exchanged.

By Mom of 2 Boys Great little reference book, but the cover is cheap and flimsy and arrived bent. If I'd seen this in person, I'm not sure I would've spent $10 on it. Please publish this book with either a sturdy paperback cover or a hardcover. I feel a bit ripped off based on the quality of the cover. Inside pages are fine.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. This is a really terrific reference guide By Dona S. Harris This is a really terrific reference guide, especially for anyone using precuts in quilting projects. I have two of them - one I keep by my computer when I am ordering online, and the other in my purse for when I am out shopping. It is packed with not only dimensions, but ways to cut them, samples showing how to use them in quilt blocks, quilt sizes. For the price, this is the best quilting reference companion I have ever owned. Some may wonder about the cover, but I like it. It gives me a place to put my notes, and fabric swatches for when I am fabric shopping.

Assembling nearly 200 pieces from the collection of George Loudon, the volume encompasses a vast assortment of objects relating to nineteenth-century life sciences. Originally designed to capture the complex structures of nature, they range from books and illustrations to botanical specimens and anatomical models. Having lost most of their original pedagogical function over time, the objects are now open for contemporary reappraisal; acquiring new values that can inspire, seduce and even disorientate today s viewer. Alongside new photography by Rosamond Purcell, explanatory texts on the objects by Loudon, an essay by Robert McCracken Peck, and a conversation between Loudon and Lynne Cooke together offer insight into the objects original context and potential for new perspectives.

Meeting of art and science By trinnium Beautifully constructed book of one man's vision of the artistic attributes of 19th century scientific objects. This feels so fresh and contemporary, kind of like steam punk for the art world! At the same time, it's something I could (and should) give to my grandmother.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. This one just wasn't as funny as the others By Jean Cable This one just wasn't as funny as the others. I think a large part of this was some of the characters. I didn't like reading the parts about Randy (who was introduced in book 3) and I hated Denise who was almost always with Randy. Situations that might have been funny were instead spoiled by these two. In addition, I found Tim to be pretty annoying during book 3 and absolutely hated him in this one. It might just be his character arc, but the way he interacts with the other characters drove me up the wall. That said, the final setpiece for this one was definitely the funniest of all the books. It's just that a lot of the smaller laughs fell flat for me.To sum up, not enough Cooper, way too much Denise and Tim.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Extremely Creative and Funny By Zov Another hilarious installment in a great series. I'm going to miss the former status of one of the main characters whose antics never failed to stop my ability to breathe. Hopefully Bevan has something in mind to continue providing that particular brand of humor in the next book. Some of the humor is getting old, but Bevan handles it in a very self-aware way since we are kind of stuck with it for now. Cooper could really use a charisma-boosting item or something. This series and the stormlight archive are the only two series I buy instantly on release and switch from whatever I was reading at the time.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. The series keeps getting better By Gordon Guano Once again, Robert Bevan shows that he knows just how to raise the stakes in high fantasy, then drag them through the gutter, making the reader laugh like a loon the whole way. But it's not just dick and fart jokes; we also get treated to satisfying character development, a light seasoning of mordant social commentary, and hilarious enough blasphemy to keep even the damned cackling as their spit turns.
